With this latest news, i may not have to move to canada.

The Patriot act, which allows the FBI to obtain ISP information without a court order or end-user notification, expires at the end of the year, and may be facing an uphill battle in getting renewed. According to The Hill, an increasing number of Conservatives are joining efforts to block and/or rein in many aspects of the legislation. Due to public outcry, many of the ideas proposed in the "Patriot Act 2" are being chopped up and fed through the system in less obvious bills. Many revisions were buried in the yearly Intelligence Authorization Act, because it's seen as "must pass" spending legislation and therefore usually less hotly debated than other measures. Last month the ACLU was prohibited from releasing an unedited lawsuit against the Patriot Act, because it - of all things - violated the Patriot Act.
