umm my loaner aid was an open fit sonic innovations aid (at that point i only had a mild-moderate loss). it was my first aid ever. it did help with hearing kinda, however in comparison to my aids now, i hated it lol. the open fit didn't work that great for me, and it wasn't programmed to my hearing loss anyway. now i have the starkey destiny 1200 btes and they're MUCH better! i do miss though the fact that no one could see my open fit one and it was lighter so it didn't hurt my ears.
