Ikomi named executive director of New England Homes for the Deaf - Danvers - Your Town - Boston.com
Thomas Boudrow, President and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the New England Homes for the Deaf Inc. in Danvers, MA is pleased to announce the appointment of Emmanuel Ikomi as Executive Director. He is the thirteenth person to manage the Home since it was founded in 1901. The first eight were called Matrons, in 1969; the position was changed to Executive Director making Mr. Ikomi the Homes fifth executive director.
Mr. Ikomi resides in Saugus, MA, has served as Executive Director at Hillcrest Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Fitchburg, MA and was the Assistant Administrator at the Boston Home in Dorchester, MA.
Before serving at the Boston Home, Mr. Ikomi was Program Director at the North Suffolk Mental Health Association in Chelsea. His fifteen years of experience in healthcare and Human Services, from front-line resident care services to executive management bring a unique style of leadership and delivery of service to the residents and staff at NEHD. He is fluent in five languages and is now learning ASL (American Sign Language).
Chairman Thomas Boudrow of the NEHD Board of Trustees and a member of the search committee is very excited with the choice of Mr. Ikomi. Emmanuel Ikomi has been a strong advocate of community participation, neighborhood involveent and regional, collaborative partnerships. He has been instrumental in leading the development and practice of person-centered care for individuals and elders with developmental disabilities in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. He champions elder issues and has endeavored to provide a better quality of life for people in our comminities.
Mr. Ikomi received a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Boston. He is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator, Justice of the Peace and Notary Public. He is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Administrators.

The mission of New England Homes for the Deaf (NEHD) is to provide American Sign Language accessible housing, health care, social supports and recreational activities for Deaf and Deaf-Blind elders with priority given to those who are either born deaf or deafened prior to acquiring language and who because of advanced age, economic, social and/or physical constraints most benefit from the unique linguistic and cultural supports. NEHD is one of only two such organizations in the country and one of less than a dozen world-wide that is fully accessible to the visual and tactile needs of its residents.
New England Homes for the Deaf provides a wide range of high-quality housing, health care and socialization opportunities for Deaf and Deaf-Blind elderly:
• Housing: NEHD operates a HUD sponsored 24 unit independent living facility.
• Health Care: NEHD operates a state licensed 81 bed rest home/ skilled nursing facility.
• Socialization: NEHD operates six regionally based Senior Citizen Centers.
