I am very sorry to say that due to ethical reasons that I wish to be removed from Alldeaf. I was not aware upon creating an account that adult content in some sub-forums could be viewed once an account was made.

I am sending admin a message confirming my request. Thank you for reading my message.

Sorry to hear you found your stay unpleasant. Maybe the admins can revoke the privileges of being able to see the adult-only forums on the account? I am sure Alex can do that, since I used to restrict what subforums people could see on an old vBulletin forum.

Thank you for responding. I am rather saddened by this but I do have strong beliefs which I am afraid I must uphold in requesting to be deleted as a member.

Did you not read the rules before joining? It is easy just to not come back if you dislike it here, but rules state, once a member always a member.

I don't like pornographic content either, but I just don't read those sections.

Haunted, I completely understand. This was an issue years ago when people were using extremely adult content as their avatars or signatures. There was a vote on the matter and it was decided that pg-13 content was okay. But, one persons idea of pg-13 content (more like X-rated) and anothers were completely different. I left for a while, as well. Things have calmed down quite a bit since then, and usually you can tell what is adult content by the name of the topic and just avoid that thread. But if you feel this strongly about it, no one is going to fault you for leaving based on your morals and ethics. Please know that there are other deaf bulletin board forums out there that do not allow such pornographic content. Hope you find what you are looking for :)

Wow! I had forgotten all about that issue.

Agree with concerns

I'll have to say, even as a new member, I've been perplexed what all that junk is doing here. I don't read it either, but even some of the titles seem to far exceed pg-13. I'm not leaving because of it, but definitely not coming here as often nor recommending the list without a caveat.

We are not alone in this aversion.

I don't love it or hate it. I post on the marriage and dating threads but not on the graphic ones. Just seems awkward to talk about on an online forum with a bunch of people I don't know.

Meh, the internet is full of vulgarity and obscenity. If you can't just choose not to look at it, then you are better off getting rid of the internet, not just your alldeaf account.

Well, this person made a personal decision based on certain facts in AD and she/he is well within her/his rights to decide to cancel her account. It's a personal decision and nothing more. I've no other input about this one.

While there's a lot of junk on the net, it's easy to avoid and bypass. I spend several hours most days surfing and the main place I've seen stuff I wanted to avoid was on this forum. So, this arguement doesn't make sense in that light.

Why can't a forum created around a specific topic stck to that topic?

I hope you never check out the Vestibule, 4chan, SomethingAwful... among other sites. Maybe delist yourself from Twitter and Facebook since most of the nasty stuff I don't want to see in the last few months are from those two sites.

In fact, AllDeaf is the most mild forum I have been on in regard to content, and flames. The flames here doesn't even compare to other forums.

It's also a bit over the top on political correctness, too. Can't put a funny picture of a cat dressed in a suicide bomber costume suit in the jokes section without somebody hyperventilating about it.

Thank you for letting me know, it is nice of you to inform me. I have emailed that account but recieved no reply yet. I am hoping this can all be sorted out soon as possible.

This will hopefully be my last message. I am greatful to those of you who were mature enough to understand where I was coming from and a bit taken back by the rest of the comments.

For me, the bottom line is that there was no mention upon signing up for this forum that adult content was made available once you signed up. In fact, the rules that you re-read when you click the 'register' button state that sexually orinated posts are not allowed? It is confusing to say the least.

I don't think I am in the wrong. I could not have assumed that this type of content would be available seeing as it isn't really anything to do with the overall nature (Deaf life) of the forum? (particularly the forum content that you see when you are not a registered member - none of the adult forums show up until you register) Had I known what I do now I wouldn't have joined.

The argument about the internet being full of this stuff really isn't valid. I have many places that use regularly without any fear of being exposed to unwanted viewing.

I really hope that my account will be deleted soon, this entire experience has been extremely stressful. I am thankful once again to those of you who have been helpful and kind towards me.

I wish that accoints at AD could be set up in a way so that we didn't have to see all the nasty so-called "adult" thread titles each time we clicked New Posts.

a possible get-around - you can adjust your birth year to make your age a minor.
