Yesterday I went to the school to turn in a signed doctors document, along with hospital documents stated about my sickness and how it affected my performance last year...and the supervisor of the office said it was wrong?! That, that is not what she wanted and she won't accept it; that she wants my doctor saying it has been resolved, but it hasn't. I'm still undergoing treatment and I told her that. So the staff got me really upset because they wouldn't accept it...and I went through so much to get all that stuff token care of. I had to wait a little over a month and a half because it took so long for my insurance provider to approve the visit...I went through so much just to find out they won't accept it! So, I went all the way to my doctors office, and they told me that's the best they could do. I honestly don't care anymore,if they don't accept me in the spring semester, and change anything...I'm leaving. I can't take this anymore...I don't care if I have to start all over at a new school...I don't care if I got to take the bus to a different town...It's not right. Any suggestions on an online college that offers FASFA?

Try community college? Some of them have virtual learning. Usually cheaper and profs are more available. Students at my university all picked up credits. Just be sure it will transfer.

I'm sorry to hear that. :-(

Is your college publicly funded?

I'm asking because maybe there is an education dept or agency you can file an formal complaint with regarding your college's actions.

I honestly have no clue as long as I've been there I don't stay and look around the school, or anything like that. I usually just go straight to class and come home. I'll have to look into it on Tuesday because I have less of a hectic schedule then.

As far as I know, all schools in the country accept federal financial aid unless its something like a very small vocational or technical school but even cosmetology and the votech school here in my county accept fafsas. I'm sure you won't have a problem finding somewhere else to go. Why don't you try going to a University? I'm all for county schools, I loved mine when I went there but if they're giving you trouble, it might not be such a bad idea to transfer out early. Also, I know that if your respective county college cannot accommodate you in the way that you require (so far, I've only heard this done regarding desired major but it may help you too) you are able to go to the county college that can best accommodate your needs and rather than paying out-of-county tuition, you will pay in-county tuition, which I think is a great thing, Hope this helps.

You don't have to run around your campus to find out.

I looked at the website for CoS, and it seems to contain a lot of information that could answer many of your questions. It's easy to navigate.

The campus map is very clearly labelled. Your campus isn't very large (half of it is sports area), so you should be able to find everything easily. Print out the map and mark the places you want to find.

It looks like the residency requirements for lower tuition in Angel's case are statewide, not county wide. That is, she can attend any college in California and still get the state residents' rate for tuition.

Californians, is that correct?

Cause I don't have enough to transfer to a University yet... :/ But I'm going to look some more for different colleges.

I'm not sure if it's correct...but I know I've lived here all my life.I've never been outside the state. I've already decided though that if they don't change by the spring semester, then i'm just leaving.

Yes Reba, that is correct. I no longer live in CA... but I use to... and that is correct. You can go to any CA school... CC or State school for the resident rate.

 The signed doctors document is supposed to give the medical facts about your medical history and current diagnosis/prognosis. It is NOT there to say what the office wants to hear, they should accept it whether it says one or the other. If you don't mind, why are they asking for the document about how your illness affected your performance last year? Are they wanting it so they can determine your eligibility to be re-enrolled? Just curious. I hope this gets resolved or you find a nice school you can go to that takes your health in consideration so you aren't deprived of the education you are seeking. Good luck. :thumb:

Oh yes lol that is true. Universities have either in-state or out-of-state tuition. In regards to county schools, which is the type of school that OP attends currently, they either have in-county tuition or out-of-county tuition.

Not according to their website pages about tuition and residency. Their residency requirements are for the state of California.

Of course, it might be elsewhere in their website. If that's the case, then they aren't obvious.

There were some scholarships listed that were for county residents only.

I know. They are suppose to accept it,it was a signed document and documents to state I was in the hospital during those times, but they said they won't. I'm appealing my academic status of last year. When I left last year, I was too sick to keep up with the work. I was constantly in and out of the hospital, or the clinic, or with a specialist. When I left though, all my teachers knew about illness and they were suppose to give me a W or I; not a single one did. They all failed the class I was in. So I have been trying to appeal last years grade because I left it brought my GPA down. I've recovered it to where it used to be, but they said last years GPA is affecting me, and can't get any financial assistance because of it. :/ Oh and thank you.

At our college, a student has to apply for withdrawal status before a certain deadline each semester. No one is allowed to make the withdrawal for the student. Not teachers, counselors, or any other staff persons. Only the student can apply for a W grade, and it must be done before the deadline. Your teachers can't "give" you a W grade without the official withdrawal paperwork. It's out of their hands. It's pretty much an automated grading system.

Did you apply for withdrawal from classes before the deadline? That is, did you complete the paperwork in time?

many colleges do allow extenuating circumstance where a student gets unexpectedly severely-ill that may takes more than 2 weeks. As long as you have medical documentation, you can fill out paperwork and it should be approved without resistance. I'm surprised that your college is acting like a rogue place where they make up any rules they want.

but forgive me - at same time, I'm also questioning your ability and competence in this matter because you seem very clueless with how college system works. I don't know what's going on with you but what I'm suggesting is that you put your college on hold and get your personal matter settled beforehand. Get well. Stay healthy.

Yea I withdraw before the deadline...and I was told in the counselors office that, if you let your teacher know what's going on it's up to them if they want to give a W, or I, or fail the class. All you have to do to withdrawal from the class is log onto your banner account go to Student information and click on register classes. From there it should list your current classes, and you would be able to click on them to a W for Withdraw.
