How can I be a better conversationalist?

I realize that I'm absolutely terrible at making or initiating a conversation. I cannot go beyond the "basics" of conversation such as, "how are you?" "it's so cold!" "this course is really hard."

Et cetera. So how do you start a good conversation?

Try to find topics of interest. Maybe things you like to do and that person too, movies, books.
 
You can always throw random uncomfortable facts out there and go off of that, that's what I like to do! :twisted:
