Hello all.
I am Barry and I am ew here but have enjoyed reading the posts and the helpful advice the people on here have left for others. I look forward to reading more as we go on

As for me I have had an on going hearing problem for 20 years now. I am 49 now and was born deaf in my right ear. In 1994 one day my left ear went really low and ringing, distortion, wild fluctuations started. It was different everyday in what I may be able to hear. It lasted a month then perodically over the years would return and cause havoc.

I been through a lot of trial and error with ear doctors, specialists etc. got a lot of bad advice from some of them, others tried to help. For the last few years it's been good until all again here I go. This time there is no fluctuation. It's barely possible to hear with a hearing aid now. I'm going through steroid injections and pills now. I know my situation is similar to others and probably not as unique as
I think. This is the short version.

Sorry if this is long but I wonder if anyone had similar experience over the course of 20 years or so and any resolution or changes came about with finding right dr or options. Thanks for reading in any case. Reading these posts I don't feel so alone in this now

I had some wild fluctuation with my hearing loss! (I go see the new audi next week to discuss new hearing aids lol)

A large percentage of my husband's family has progressive hearing loss.

Not one of them regained hearing, which is what I take your question to be.

I do not have the fluctuations, but also have been deaf in my right ear since I can remember (I am 60 now) - and now my left ear is getting worse so it cannot cover for the right ear.
This has shown up gradually, but just recently not good enough.
I am also going through an adjustment period.
So I don't have any great answers.
Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (BAHA) sound very promising if your left ear is good enough, and if your insurance would cover it.

Thanks for the replies. Nothing has changed so next step is new hearing aid. I will ask about the ones folks recommend on here.

you're welcome! I'll let you know if mine is really messed up then I'll go Naida or Nitro.

Hi again. I thought I would update my status as I been asked about it. As it stands the injections and medicine did no good. Nothing changed They want me to wait and see on hearing aids in case my hearing does come back. I have some hearing but the hearing aid I have doesn't help much and it's increasingly harder to hear much now. I go to another specialist in two weeks. But on the bright side Summer is near. Lol

I been reading up on ways to help people communicate with me and people's stories. That is helping. Just don't know what's next yet. I appreciate the support and advice I get.
