Help I'm going crazy about updating a driver for a friend

She has a Windows 98 operating system and an Intel 536 ep V.98 modem for her computer. She recently tried to sign up for yahoo internet dial up service and they said that she had to update her driver to be able to connect. I went to intel and got what I need but when I downloaded it and ran the program it opened dos and said enviorment out of space and now I'm lost at what to do. I was reading through different troubleshooting things and one of them said that if it was installed in the com4 it could cause problems and thats where this one is installed. Can someone please help me figure out how to fix this problem so that I can get her signed up and online?

The modem could be dead. Bad hardware dosn't play by the rules. Go to OfficeMax and spend $5 on a new modem.

Why is your modem installed on com4? what other devices do you have?

Upgrade the OS, get a better RAMs, get a better video card, and you are good.
