Hello,

I am new here. I am trying to find a poem that I can use at my Mother's funeral. She is deaf, and is terminally ill. I would like a poem that reflects deaf culture at a time of loss of your Mother. Can anyone help?

Thanks so much,

Mia

Hello There,

Welcome to Alldeaf and enjoy your stay here...

Did you go thru googles and type in " poems " ?...and I'm really sorry to hear about your mom....

Thank you for the 1st reply!

Hello, and thank you for your kind reply.

Yes, I have tried google, but can't find anything appropriate.

I want to leave a message of deaf awareness with the people who will be attending her funeral. I want them to remember her deaf culture.

Thanks again,

Mia

Hello and welcome to Alldeaf Mia! You could browse through the Creative Writing forum section here in AD....I hope you'll find one that will be most appropriate for you...anyhow, hope you'll enjoy your stay here in AD-- ;)

Welcome aboard to AD.

My sympathy about your Mother.

I think she would like a poem about vision/seeing or talking hands??

G'day Mia,
Welcome to AD. Hope you can find a good poem. Sorry about your mother.
Cheers!

 welcome to AD Mia -- enjoy ur stay!

Im sorry about ur mom -- hope u find the poem u are looking for!

You can use and change my poem that I wrote for my grandmother.

http://www.deafaviator.org/fbcom/grandmother.htm

You will have to change "Bernie" and "Journey" (immediately after a line with Bernie at end on previous line) so that they can rhyme for your Mother. I'm sorry :(

If you are not satisifed with this poem, let me know, I'll try and write you a new poem about your mother.

I will need to know a little more about your Mother so that I can better write a poem for her.

:welcome: to AD! Enjoy your time here.

Sorry about your mother. It is terrible with this time of the year. Our prayers are with you and your mother.

This is not how I do at the funerals for a few of my friends who passed on. But since I used to write and spoke at my mom's funeral. She's not deaf but I altered the words below but I do not add those at my mom's funeral. It is not a poem, but a description of what we feel and how we write, it brought tears and hugs and remembrance. I will continue to write some papers for some deaf parents or hearing children of deaf parents. Sorry to hear about your mom. :( Welcome to AD forum.

My Mother Is A Loving Deaf Person. (always use present tense except for when you was taught or in the past years when you was little as she is next to you, I changed because I used to put down "My Mother Is A Very Special Woman.")

My mother is a loving deaf person, she taught me one

thing and again another thing. The signs she taught me

I can talk to deaf people. My mother was there for me,

she cried when she saw me at birth, she cried when she

saw me fall down when I take my first step, and the tears

she had mean she cares about me. My mother is a loving,

deaf person, she taught me respect toward a deaf community.

My mother was there for me, she took in prides for a job well done.

She hugs me and gives me a lot of kisses. My mother is a loving,

deaf person, she taught me sign languages and she encouraged

me to understand a deaf culture. A deaf mother like her is the

same as any mother who is NOT deaf. She put the rules just like

any other mother. My mother is a loving, deaf person and

I love her very much.

Sorry to hear about ur mother. Good that u prepare to find a good poem about her at the funeral.

Thank you for the nice welcome. I have not found a poem yet, but a friend has sent me this:

"Those who live in silence
shall hear the whisper of God."

I think I will use it too.

What do you think?

Hugs,

Mia
