Which are the best brand hearing aids for really deaf or born deaf clients?
I have been reading with interest this forum for several days now and have to put my two cents in. I am a nurse in busy hospital and have worn hearing aids since my teens (18 years now) and I have been fit by both audiologists and hearing aid specialists. My best experiences by far have been with the last hearing aid specialist that I did business with. But I am here to talk about where and how I purchased my latest set of aids and my experiences with them.
About 8 months ago it was time to replace my Starkey's (excellent hearing aids by the way) and I was absolutely tired of paying 4 to 6 thousand dollars for hearing aids ever 4 or 5 years. I was also tired of going to the providers office for adjustments. I did my research on the internet and found a company called HearSource.
I faxed them the required paperwork including a hearing evaluation that had been done where I work. I purchased a set of very good open fit hearing aids they call "FreeStyles". These hearing aids came to me pre-programmed from them that was very close to being right-on out of the box. There were a few minor adjustments that I did request and they accomplished this via the internet with my hearing aids connected to my own home computer and in my ears. I heard the adjustments immediately and the whole "appointment" lasted only about 15 minutes and I never left my house. I am a Mother and finding a baby sitter for my kids to go to the hearing aid dealers office has always been a pain. I am able to do minor adjustments myself using my own computer.
These things are great. I hear well (better than I ever have been able to) and I paid less than $2,000 for the set, including all the software and programming equipment.
I know I will get a great bit of advice from industry people in here telling me I should have gotten my aids from them but I have to say I am happily off the audi band wagon and in control of my own hearing.
Just thought I would share MY experiences.
