Just to clarify, since you are not American, do you know that every POTUS takes an oath to uphold and enforce all the laws of the land? Obama does not get to pick and choose which laws he will enforce based on his personal whims.

How does a president "enforce" a law? Isn't that like saying "The Pope doesn't enforce pre-marital sex ban"?

Are you counting tax, too? Since it's practically like giving it to charity. OooOoooOohhh, I went there.... ;)

Edit: by the way, you're a better person than me. I do give to charity, but just calculated the percentage of my gross income (before taxes). Wow it's REAAAALLLYYY low..... :-|

I like your take on taxes.

I learned my giving from my folks. As I have said we were REALLY poor when I was a kid. Yet my parents gave every week. It became a habit I picked up. I don't judge others though with the exception of people running for office claiming they care about the poor.

My mom gave quite a bit of money to church every week. I thought I gave a reasonable amount per month, but I never thought about it until now. That's why I was like wow... that's pretty low.... when I calculated the percentage. I'd like to think that I'll start giving to charity heavily when I've already had kids and their education is paid for. For now, I'll just steadily increase the percentage per year.

As for the bolded, I knew you would. :-P

Cool! Totally makes sense too.

A) I haven't mentioned DOMA in this thread.

B) I mentioned Obama gives more now that he is under the microscope. In 2007 (year before election) he gave less than 6%

Obama made $4 million last year - Political Intelligence - A national political and campaign blog from The Boston Globe - Boston.com

C) Yes, I give more than 15%. I consider 15% to be a very sad level of giving for people who have much.

just less than 6% of 4 million is a hefty donation and p.s. are you talking 4 million before or after taxes?

DOMA comment was for steinhauer, was too lazy to write separate posts.

That is where we differ.... I find 6% to be a paltry donation for a millionaire. I personally would be ashamed of myself if my % was that small. That being said, this would be none of my business if Obama weren't running for President and touting himself as the best President for the poor.

Without going back to check, I believe it was before taxes. If not that is even worse.

hmmm....so might as well give all politicians a hard time for not donating minimum 15% to charity then, not just Obama. Out of curiosity, how much did Gingrich donate to charity? Let's look it up....2.6%

curious why you blast obama for 6% but not gingrich for 2.6%. actually, i'm not curious. I'm making a statement.

Gingrich's charitable giving not so charitable, data show - InvestmentNews

Newt's charitable giving is disgraceful..... but I don't see him pandering to the "poor vote" like Obama. Newt's calls for Romney's taxes my bite him in the butt. :dunno:

well, I have to agree with you there. He basically tells them to get off their asses and get jobs.

Oh, so, gingrich's noncharitable tendencies and lobbying for Freddie Mac before the 2008 collapse, as well as cheating on two wives pales in comparison to Obama's "pandering" to the poor vote?

c'mon now.

but you're overlooking what he has done for people.

Action > Money. He was a community organizer, civil rights attorney, and bunch more. He has worked with more poor people than both Romney and Gingrich did combined.

Not what I said.

Hate to say, charities aren't helpful at all and I saw some documentaries about poor people don't get much help from charities, just VERY little, that it.

I see it differently.

I see it differently.

yes. your view leans toward to socialism/communism that we have to give more $$$$ to public/tax if we're rich.

even if I were filthy rich, I wouldn't give money away like that.

You're right. I looked up the finances of the Humane Society and learned a vast chunk of donations goes to paying staff and very little to actually helping the animals.

Unfortunately, that's the case for a lot of charities and nonprofits.

Incorrect. Tax and giving are 2 entirely different issues.

even if I were filthy rich, I wouldn't give money away like that.

And you are free to make that decision.
