I have a question about the different aids that use frequency transposition or compression or whatever.

My son (age 6) has been wearing Phonak Naidas for 4 years now, and he's due for a new pair. I figured we'd just get the newest Naidas and be fine, but then I read this article: Hearing Aid Frequency Lowering: Not All Work Equally Well | The Hearing Blog and now I'm wondering about the Starkey SpectralIQ and Widex Audibility Extender instead. He certainly gets annoyed by some frequency music - like, really bothered and upset - but without some kind of something, he doesn't hear the higher frequencies at all. His audiogram is like a hockey stick - thresholds are 55, 60, 65, 110 (roughly).

Any thoughts? Anyone have experience of the Starkey SpectralIQ and Widex Audibility Extender, do they enhance enjoyment of music? Are they good in other areas? Thoughts?
