Sounds like they are after your pocketbook more than doing what's right by you.

I love my husband more and more! :)

Especially after reading threads like this.

Which oil change center did you take it to? It happens to me before, I just say no and I know what needs and what doesn't need to be changed. I just tell them what IS needed, period. They better not go after my money, grrr.

Ford? You're better off getting an entirely new car that is not Ford, methinks. hehe

i always change my fuilds, filters by mileage or when they get dirtier.. i know need change tranny fluid after 15,000 or 30,000 gas filter every 10-15,000 miles air filter, when it becomes dirty... oil - probally 3,000 to 6,000 k miles
i was a ex general serviceman for goodyear years ago... also do flush and fill the raditor myself whenever its dirty

Found on road dead. It's time to buy another non-ford vehicle.

You could buy power steer oil, cooler fluid, and brake oil at an auto shop if the levels are very low. This is easy job, and they are much cheaper than a repair service. Some repair services are always rip off.

I would say that steer oil and brake oil are the most important of all.

If your air filter looks very dirty, just buy one at the auto shop (not the repair service). Actually, it is really not necessary to buy one right away. In fact, there are a lot of air pollution from factories and restaurants everyday. Unless if you have to go for your car inspection, you will need the filter for sure.

For a gas filter, you would not worry about it for now. Same thing for flushing the cooler. The flush cooler is expensive at the service especially this one for a big rip off. You could do it yourself. I never tried it before. The cooler needs to be flushed every five years (?).

I have a Ford 1996 and Ford 2002.

For the spark plugs and the cables:

You can replace spark plugs and cables. The most important that the spark plugs should not be that old because some plugs get rust. If you unscrew and crack it, it is going to be awful expensive to replace it like 1,000 dollars at the service. Just be careful to unplug them - not too force unplug. If a plug is somewhat stuck, then spray a special oil and let it there for a few hour. Try it again. It is still stuck, then spray it more and wait for another few hour or next day. If no luck, then drive it to the service.

Suppose if your spark plug is completely cracked and the half cracked part is still in the "hole." This is what you have to BIG be careful - look carefully to see whether there is a pin in the hole hanging there. If you see the pin, use your plier to take it out - or - use a magnet pointer to take it out. (Don't let the pin fall into the motor.) If it is too difficult, there is one last chance that might work - start up your motor AND turn it off for ONE second because the air compress in the motor "air blow" the pin out so that the pin would not go inside the motor. That's what I did, and I got the pin out after I started up the motor. Whew! (Many repair services don't tell you this one.)

Suppose if you cannot find a pin in the hole, it might have falled into the motor tank - do NOT start up the motor - call a platform truck service to transport it to a repair shop. End up paying 1,000 dollars to have someone to take the motor apart and remove the pin. Again, if you started your motor and the pin is inside the motor, then the motor is damaged which end up more than 2,000 dollars. It can be scary, but not much choice unless you know what to do and save your money wisely.

That's why I would rather to own an air compressed truck that does not involved with the spark plugs and others. Maybe, an electric car if I have no choice.

gotta to kick that suckass ford out and get new one with badass vehicle, non ford, please.

i still recommend change gas filter..do search over at f150online.com.

As for spark plugs, if your still covering warrarty. bring it in before your warranty expire and have them to change sparks...be sure tell them to please follow TSB (tech service bullint (spell?)

If Sparkplug are copper tipped, Change every 3,500 miles... If it is Platuim tipped, Change every 24,000 miles. Do not wait too long or else sparkplug would be hard to remove. Remmy that Sparkplugs do not last forever.

 If, it was me, I would change the cooler fluid first. Why? You need the protection in the Florida heat! 2nd, I would change gas filter. 3rd, I would change air filter. You can change the air filter yourself and save some money, buy at a Super Wal-Mart. 4th, I would change tranny fluid. 5th, I would change diff fluid. 6th, change power steering fluid and last the brake fluid. I keep all reciepts.

Strange to me, though I am not a Ford truck owner, that Ford recommends to change power steering and brake fluid.

It is cheaper to pay for routine maintenance, than to pay for repairs for not doing recommended maintenance. As usual, your mileage may vary.

FWIW, I take my 2006 Dodge 2500 4x4 SLT Heavy Duty Quad Cab HEMI pick up truck and our 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4x4 Limited to Super Walmart for routine air, gas, oil and filters change. Super Walmart is a lot cheaper, I'm happy with their service and they fulfill the requirements for warranty service.

Damn...

I got a 2001 FORD and let's see...

Oil has been changed every 5,000-10,000 miles depending on my mood.

Air Filter was only changed twice

Fuel Filter changed at 30,000 then swapped in at 140,000 miles on odo.

I havent even changed the tranny fluid. The tranny happens to be a Mazda built stickshift that takes Mecron auto tranny fluid for lube.

Yet that damn thing still runs despite what Ford service manual says so.

oh BTW the coolant was only changed when I had my thermostat and t-stat housing replaced at 125,000 miles.

Even Ford said to replace the timing belt at 120k...I still have the original belt doing it at 155k.

So if that Ford takes a licking, it will keep on ticking... :)

This in the bold, I recommend you to replace it right away. It is not a good idea to go past the service life of your timing belt, if you continue to do that....if your valves open when the piston is at the lower part of the cylinder...when the timing belt breaks.....your engine is going bye bye. Some cars have valves open when piston is at the lower part of the cylinder, which is called intercorporlated engine, I can't spell that word.

I know ...Hell my old 1987 Ford Escort 4 dr 1.9LHSC ripped out her timing belt that Ford said should be at 60,000. Since I bought it used with 65k on the odometer, the original owner didnt replace it and well I ended up with a blown camshaft belt at 67,000 miles n stranded 1 mile from the Mexican border when I went to Tijuana. Yet a new belt later the motor still ran. I didnt even bend any valves in the head.

I know I was supposed to replace the belt at 120k on my car, but since I dont rev my motor past the redline and keep it below 3,000 rpms, I havent had to replace it. Guess buying it new paid off for me cuz even though I may have 155k on it my rule is always keep the damn thing running below 3,000-3,500 rpms so I guess I did extend my timing belt life 35,000 miles more than Ford recommended replacing. It's on my to-do list to replace besides the fucking ever-cracked windshield.

Maybe the belts are too cheap because they are made in China. It might be a good idea for you to replace it early before the mileage's requirement meets.

It's something that you might want to think about it because most auto makers want you to buy a new car or truck in order to make more profit. It would be better off for you to replace something earlier so that your car can live much longer or a sort of a new car.

I thought that you might be interested to see this picture so that you would get the idea what is going on. I think that this is pretty a good example. You might want to laugh about it.
