So I have a profound loss which I knew and I know my hearing fluctuates a bit as well..well today was weirddd I had an ASSR to bring to my CI evaluation in March and during the ASSR the results were weird so within an hour she did some of the freqs twice and one set showed that I was profound and the other showed I was at like 30 dB at the same freq...so my audiologists are baffled and have NO idea what is causing it so instead of seeing the CI audi on the 19th I'm being pushed straight to the CI surgeon/ENT specialist ..beyond frustrated..someone said maybe Menieres but I don't have vertigo ?

ugh

Believe it or not....

I have found in a lot of cases...ear pressure affects it dramatically. Even allergies. Anything affected in ENT (EAR NOSE THROAT) will affect the HOH individual. Oh, you bet.

Hmm well I never thought of that and my Audi never mentioned that either ..I know my hearing loss fluctuates a bit but for it to fluctuate to "normal" freqs I find totally impossible because I never have experienced "normal" hearing since I was 16 lol I wish :p Not that I mind being deaf..it's frustrating at times but I enjoy taking my hearig aids off and having silent time :)

Hi again Alicia. There's a lot of things an Audi won't do. I am trying to help you with 40 years of experience wearing hearing aids an having a profound/severe loss. The bottom line for businesses is money. Once a sale is made your best outcome or gain is sadly limited. Please press for adjustments and get tweakings often. I once even asked questions when she was using the Phonak software. Read or download the software yourself from Phonak and play with it. You won't be able to program with it alone without necessary hardware and skill, but at least you can see the presettings Phonak makes. Self information is power to you.

Anyway, I firmly believe that the ear's overall ENT health is heavily related to your output quality with hearing aids.

Also, if you get annoyed by poor fitting ear molds and tubes getting hard and shrinking, ask for hard molds and better tubing. The hard molds are not uncomfortable..but I recommend not to use them in contact sports. You can bruise your outer ear if you bump them.

Recently I got new tubing by a different maker and these have been lasting forever! No shrinking or hardening! You gotta complain a bit to wake them up or help you find solutions.

I don't have problems with tubing or my ear molds thankfully..and I go for hearing aid tweaks allllll the time..recently I've gone at least 6 times in the last 2 months or so ...

The problem is here that our health care is free so seeing a specialist takes monthssss and my regular ENT never has anything to say..

I would like a CI for my right ear since it's my more profound ear and the one that works with my stethoscope that I currently can't use cuz I can't hear out of it..which is beyond frustrating. The head audiologist and owner of the clinic I go to says I probably won't qualify for a CI cuz of the fluctuation..but my hearing aids don't do squat and for me to pass school and be in my profession I NEED to use a stethoscope even though I want to specialize I still need to prove I can do things that are in my scope of practice..
