I think I have an ear infection. My ear throbs constantly and I am getting major headaches. It also hurts to sleep on that ear but that is the only comfortable position that I can sleep in so I am barely getting any sleep.

Does anyone know of something to clear up the infection or do something to dull down the pain?

Go see an ear doctor. If your local area doesn't have an doctor that specialize in auditory issues, you may need to head to the ER, cause if left untreated, it can damage your hearing, if you have any. I had a double ear infection back in the 1990's, and it cost me greatly in later life.

I am HoH, only have a hole in one ear. When I was a child I used to get ear infections a lot. I have crappy insurance now though, which takes months just to even get a normal doctors appointment and my car died on me a while ago so I have no way to get to the ER. :/

That sucks. How about an urgent care or a free clinic? They can check your ear and refer you to a specialist.

As for transportation, don't you have Metrolink or CalTrain nearby?

Or even the Blue, Gold or Green Lines of Los Angeles? Unless you live outside that area?

What about local transit? surely there is a bus, subway or something like that?
How about asking a friend with a car?

What part of California do you live in? I lived in Berkley and I did not have car , I walked everywhere or took the bus. You really should get the ER. I knew a woman that had an earache and her boyfriend took her to an ENT Dr. and he told her not to worry and send the woman home. She woke that night in horrible pain and blood was coming out of her ear and she had a red line running down her neck! She got to the ER just in line.

All of the above is good advise....And being a veteran of ear infections all my life and 4 surgeries on each ear....I know the pain.....Just had another surgery Oct. 31, staples still behind the ear and hope to get them out Dec. 2nd...

First off, do not get any WATER in your ears....my ENT suggested that I use cotton balls swabbed with Vaseline to keep the water out, as ear plugs did not do the complete job.....wrap the ears in plastic also...it's time consuming, yes.....but it's worked for me.

You will have to see an ENT, no matter what. If you don't get treatment, infections will cause deafness in the ear. along with the pain and drainage.

Thank you everyone. I am going to try to get a ride to the ER by my friend as soon she can get over to my house.
I live in the desert of San Bernardino County, so we don't have Caltrans or trains for that matter. If it gets too bad, I might just walk to the closest bus stop I can find and take that to the DR.

I hope you get better. It's a good idea to have that looked at. Feel better soon.

When I was growing up, we never went to a doctor. Amazing how we all survived.

Hope you get your ear checked and get this resolved soon.

When I myself was growing up, I had to make an emergency trip to the doctor's office, cause a wasp had somehow gotten into my right ear (I never felt in go into there, oddly enough), and it got stuck, and started stinging the #@!% out of my ear, and off to the doctor I went, where they spent the next 2.5 hours carefully getting it out, and when it did come out, it was HUGE, and my ear was frigging sore, and I had to stay home from school the next day. Since then, I've always been careful when things with stingers get too close to me.

I am sure glad my parents took me the ER after I was hit by a car when I was 4 yo and they brought me to our family DR. after my middle finger was almost cut off . If I did not go to a DR. I would be missing half of my finger and having a deformed left leg. You can dies from an infection if it get into your bloodstream . I know someone that can close to dying when he had an infection and the doctors could not find it. Did you get injuries or broken bones as a child?

Same here....as my siblings and I lived way back in the back woods of N.C. Nearest town with a hospital was over 20 miles away, we had no car, just a horse and buggy.....and I do remember being held on my G'mother's lap and her pouring Sweet Oil into my ears....that was the old-tyme remedy for ear infection and pain.....

Wirelessly posted

I hope you are able to goto the Dr soon. Antibiotics and ear drops can provide some relief. Get better soon. If all else fail you can call an ambulance with an non emergency call, to get you to the ER.
