DVDs coming with no captions

There is a DVD captioning in the movie. Heres how you do it.
A. Insert the DVD disk in you system Scroll skip previews.
B. On your remote press menu
C. Scroll down to Lang
D. You will see english, spanish, french scroll down to captions hearing impared and click on it.
E.Click play and thats it!

It drives me up the wall, makes me go bonkers, makes me crazy, makes me want to SCREAM !!! when I rent a movie and there is no CC or at least open captions.

Me thinks it should be ILLEGAL to sell no CC movies.

as for:
>> Big difference, captioning decoders are built in all of the TVs that are bigger than 13 inches (screen). But subtitles are on the DVDs, not TV sets.<<

If there is CC on DVD but not showing on TV,
perhaps it depends on the connection, because you can plug TV cable in to TV or in to DVD.
Maybe it's different with DVDs but I remember my videos only showed CC in certain connection order.

I would like to see them do subtitle but must be english, not just spanish or close caption in DVD features where they tell you how they made the movie, interviews and blah blah like that. Most of the features don't have captioning.

I was quite pleased when I found out that the special features discs from the Extended Lord of the Rings DVD's were CC'd. Now if only the 44 hours of commentary had been captioned to......I know my gf would love to watch those.

There is company called Hallmark Entertainment, they are not close captioned at all either.

Um, last time I checked... quite a lot of Hallmark DVDs were captioned. Perhaps you are confused in understanding the difference between closed captioning that is decoded on the television sets and the subtitles on the DVDs.

Most DVD titles are captioned, but it's the DVD players that can block the CC signals from being sent to the television set. Especially the cheap DVD players and progressive scan DVD players. A lot of early models also had problems with this.

Yeah me too.

In the general, almost all DVDs should have subtitles, there are some that don't.

It's most likely porno, reality, or some stupid movies that doesn't have subtitles. :dunno:

If any of you complain about having no CC or Subtitle on any DVD, please write a formal letter directly to Motion Picture Association of America. :type:

Please provide your CC/BCC to our thread. If they do not reponse right away, any of us will be happy to write extra complains.

We do have about 20 million population of deaf and HH includes CI, my assumption is that 1 percent people (about 20,000 :grouphug: ) would write directly to the MPAA President Dan Glickman, as formerly U.S. Senator (R-KS).

I will start it when I have time. I am too busy for this month plus vacation.

Isn't it a time for a Boston Tea Party again? (Can we break into any stores and steal DVDs then we dump them in the river?) :fruit:

people who make dvds might be dumb that they thinks there are just hearing people out there NO there are not hello!!! there are deaf, hoh and people who would like to read the CC on the dvds out there DUH

but my feeling is that i thinks that hearing people were complaining aobut the CC be posted in the dvds

A lot of the DVD cases have the CC logo on them.. but they're not captioned, just subtitled. And there's a big difference between closed captionings and subtitles, don't you think?

I have a few DVDs that have no captions and no subtitles... Sometimes I wonder why I paid the money for these DVDs...

I bought a dvd that has CC symbol on the back cover, but when I watched it, no CC! I tried to find subtitles in the menu, and made sure CC decoder is turned on. NOTHING! I think its a rip off and I think they labelled it to show they did add CC due to law or something but didnt really add CC due to the cost. :(

How is your DVD player hooked up? Some DVD players cannot even display captions through certain cables.

What DVD was it?

I think I know why some DVDs do not have CC. These are supposed to have CC on them if they are printed on the packages. Some store owners illegally copied them and sell their customers for extra profit because the decorder program for CC is not included in the recording.

I found through experience and the owner's manual with my HDTV that the CC signal will not pass via the component input (the blue, green, and red connections). It WILL pass through an S-video cable, the single yellow video cord the yellow connection, or a coaxial cable. This rules out CC on a progressive-scan DVD player, in some cases, and you have to go with the S-video or use the English subtitles...if the subtitles are even there.

It still pisses me off royally that Dark Shadows TV show was released on DVD with neither subs nor CC. :madfawk: :madfawk: :madfawk:

Impossible, my DVD player is hooked up to my TV using component cables and I'm able to get closed captioning on it. I don't believe it's the cable wires.

It is good to know that you found another way around it.

About your DVD the Dark Shadows, do you notice anything unusual on your DVD's package? i.e. a missing seal or fake seal (a special tape sealed the package), or not original DVD design.

No, it came from a low-profiled distributor.
