Why pay so much money on Dry Dog Food or Dry Cat Food
when they all taste alike?

I tasted Kibbles 'n Bits, it tastes like the other brand.

So next time, I'll just buy store cheap brand Dry Dog Food.

They think just because pet owners don't know if their pets
like or dislike it's food,, they think they can sell anything expensive prices. :squint:

I don't know about gravy tender cuts dog food, I'll bet they all
taste the same and gross. :(

You must enjoy eating dog food, Miss P, since you are comparing with one brand to another. :D

Flavor isn't important as long as your pet will eat the food. What is of utmost importance is that nutritional content be as high quality as possible. This is your pet's sole source of nutrients and it needs to be a well balanced diet. Anything by purina is good if you need a reasonably priced brand. If pet food strains your budget so much that you can't afford to buy food for your dog you probably shouldn't have a dog in the first place.

I have talked to my vet and Purina was specifically mentioned as a good alternative to more expensive brands out there such as Iams and science diet. Do you have any links to refute your statements?

IAMS Pet Food Cruelty Exposed :(

SUNDAY EXPRESS
http://www.uncaged.co.uk/iamsexpress.htm

The Sunday Express has uncovered damning evidence of gruesome tests performed on dogs and cats during the development of the product, which is being heavily promoted at the event. IAMS has also been backed by the RSPCA - but after being told of our findings the animal welfare charity said it would sever all ties.

Last night Crufts organisers launched their own investigation and were considering removing a stand sponsored by Procter and Gamble. In supermarkets and pet shops across Britain, IAMS is being marketed as a breakthrough in animal health care and nutrition.

But our investigation as revealed that hundreds of animals suffered incredible agony in experiments designed to perfect IAMS. A huge dossier of research papers exposes how scientists deliberately induced kidney failure and other conditions in dogs and cats. Some experiments involved performing operations on healthy animals which were later killed.

Last night animal activists and MPs condemned the research.

Campaigner and comedy writer Carla Lane said:

"It is horrifying to think people are buying pet food that involves so much experimentation. You don't have to harm animals to find out what's good for them to eat."

And Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker said:

"It's ironic to say the least that a company which purports to care for animal is conducting abhorrent animal experiments behind closed doors. Perhaps they should list their experiments on their labels and then see how much they sell."

Animal rights organisation Uncaged Campaigns is to stage a protest at Crufts, distributing leaflets and waving banners highlighting "the suffering behind the science" and urging a boycott. Director Dan Lyons said:

"Even the people representing IAMS at the show are unlikely to know they are promoting a company that inflicts pain and death on animals. Once they see the evidence they will be as appalled as anyone else."

The protest is likely to embarrass the show's organisers who boast a star studded guest list, including Coronation Street's Roy Barraclough (Alec Gilroy), actress Susan George and Eastenders Martin Kemp (Steve Owen) and Pam St Clements (Pat Butcher).

Details of the experiments are buried in obscure scientific papers uncovered by the Sunday Express and Uncaged Campaigns.

In one experiment, 24 young dogs had their right kidneys removed and the left partly damaged to investigate how protein affects dogs with kidney failure. Eight dogs were killed to analyse the kidney tissue. Dogs which became sick were not treated because it would have undermined the test results.

In another test, the stomachs of 28 cats were exposed so scientists could analyse the effects of feeding them fibre. The animals were operated on for at least two hours and then killed.

The research team sterilised 24 female cats, which were then over-fed until they became obese. They were then starved on a crash diet and when they had lost at least 30 per cent of their weight their livers were examined to investigate the link between weight loss and liver disease. The company also sponsored research in which 14 husky puppies were repeatedly injected with live virus vaccines and allergy-causing proteins for the first 12 weeks of their lives. They developed permanent illnesses in the test, which was designed to see how severely allergic they could become.

Twelve huskies, 12 poodles and 12 labradors were regularly given chest wounds to see if diet could affect fur regrowth. This was justified in the study on the grounds that "dogs are enjoyable to touch and look at... Dogs with coat problems are simply not handled as much."

Dr Dan Cary, Director of technical communications for IAMS said that his company cared about the welfare of animals. He justified the scientific studies as being carried out to save pets from illnesses and improve physical well-being. He said: "Our mission is to enhance the health of dogs and cats. We take their welfare extremely seriously during the studies and don't enter into research lightly. All our studies have to be valid science and we have to be sure they are never repeated as it is wasteful of animal time."

Ha I usually buy 20 lbs bag of dry foods for thedog and cat cuz they last a long time then the darn 5 lbs bag of dry foods. I usually buy a trash bin and put it in there so the pets cant get into it except for one of my cat who is sneaking into it. LOL No wonder she gained. :giggle:

I am trying to buy different brand of dog food, so that my puppy
won't get bored eating the same thing..

I feed my cats with dry foods very rarely. We only use dry foods for cats when we are not in home all the day.

That is right. The vet would tell you to stay with one brand and never change it.

Dear Miss Pinocchio, it is very good that you are so caring about your pet and you want to do your best for him/her.
I've heard that changing pet's food should be done gradually as some are sensitive and they may get diarrhoea from changing the food too suddenly- for example when you finish one bag of food and decide to buy something different.
It's recommended to introduce change gradually like mixing at first 1/4 of cup with regular food, and then increase the amount of new food weekly until it's changed.
I don't know how true it is (about gastric problems with food changed too suddenly) but I thought I will share that with you.

perhaps you'll like to do some Google search about food changes to know for sure.

Also, have you read the replies to your other post about spaying your pet "I'm mad" ? It's important that you do...

I don't buy cat food and my cat love to eats raw fish and loves me so much but I do not pet my cat just feed them and knowing my time feeding them. My cat is also eating gecko, crickle, grasshopper, and medicine grass too. I gets fishes from the boat gives away to me because my friend deaf work there. He work as long line fisherman.

I have Jack Russell dog, and I love her so much. She likes to eat Innonva dry food.

A few months ago, I stopped buying Nutro products because my sister told me that the company does not want us to know something - I do not remember the details. Nutro used to be very good one for a long time. IAMS is very bad business so far I know of.

I always cook boiled water and pour some water on dry food in the bowl. Let it wait for a few minutes to cool down. She loves the taste. I strongly recommend you to do the same thing for your dog.

(Just put some water on them about half size of the food so that they will absorb the water a little bit.) That's how I copied my sister's way for her boxer dogs.

Miss P -

We have never really talked to each other, but I thoroughly enjoy your posts in almost all topic/posts that you make.

I used to have a male AKC purebred Chocolate labrador dog. We named him Hershey because we couldnt decide on a name. We went to the food store, and wanted a Hershey bar. The name stuck for the dog. Anyway...when Hershey was a puppy, I swear...we went through many many small bags of dry dog food to see which one Hershey would take/eat. Bought cheap...bought expensive..bought Wal-Marts Ol Roy dog food. Nothing would satisfy him.

Finally we bought Hershey Kibble bits and bits. He loved it and would eat it like crazy. Finally found him a good dry food. You know what was so funny about Hershey? He refused to eat alone. Whenever we had Breakfast or dinner, he would eat at the same time with us. We at the table..he on the floor eating. He was the smartest dog I ever had. We could even put a milkbone treat on his nose..and make him stay (not move or bite or eat) the milkbone until we told him to "go". He ALWAYS caught the treat with his mouth off his nose before it fell to the floor.

Anyway...Kibbles bits and bits was what we used. Some poor :fu2: motherf*** :fu2: took my Hershey away and If I ever find the guy...I'm gonna kaplow.

We are gettin a Min-Pin in the spring. AKC of course.

Read the ingredients and the label. Any vet that says Purina is okay isn't worth their salt. Seriously, you need to start looking into things like this for yourself. Compare the labels, ingredients and not the price.
