Well, not all hearings understand the terms "mute" I remember the time when I was at my son's school for Parent-Teacher conference, The teacher asked me what should I write down to describe you? Deaf mute? I'm like excuse me? She's a teacher and has no idea what "mute" means. :ugh:
 
Maybe we should invent a term that sounds better for Deaf (and other disabled people who don't have oral skills) who aren't orally skilled. Mute sounds very archaic Nonverbal sounds too clincal and seems to really have connonations of mental retardation......

At least she asked - sounds like she was trying to find the correct term to refer to you without offending you.
