What I mean by DIY healthcare is when you are sick but you don't bother contacting a doctor. Either because you can't afford one, you don't think they will be much use, or simply don't like the idea of waiting four hours in an A and E.

So you simply try to make do without one.

Just curious if anyone has had to resort to that, what was wrong with them, and where they live (ie are they in USA or outside in a country with nationalized medicine).

This is not a thread for aguing Nationalized health care verses private.

I'm just interested in what other people's personal experiences are.

yea my disabitliy chage to day to day. Doctors cant really programs equment to deal with the day to day charges.

So I rode them off a long time ago and stick to having more than 1 way of accomdating my medical needs.

Thanks for the feedback inmate.
Also for the two posters who did my poll.

Yup, have done without the doctors.

Usually because I don't have the money to cover their cursed bills which always seems to be out of line with little things.

So if it's something small, like colds and fever and the like, I usually do without them because it's much easier to simply get it over with rather than pay for doctors to give you what you'd need.

Only time I use doctors is if it's in an ER situation or if it's much more serious than a small thing.

This was while I was uninsured for a while. Now I'm covered, but I'm still not going to pay 30+ for small things if I visit the docs.
