Hey all, I'm new to alldeaf.com. I'm hearing and I've been interested in ASL and deaf culture since (embarrassingly enough) I read a Babysitter's Club book where Jessi babysits a deaf child and learns a few signs. I'm taking ASL classes now and I'm trying to familiarize myself with deaf culture so I don't do anything rude through my own ignorance.

Tonight was the scheduled Deaf Coffee Chat in my area, but an interpreter for a friend of mine said that a Deaf Senate was going on instead.

A few questions:
- Are hearies welcome at Deaf Senates?
- What do the Senate meetings deal with? What topics or issues are commonly discussed?
- Are you involved in the Senate meetings? Why or why not?

Thanks for your time!

I'm a guy who enjoyed reading Baby Sitter CLub books when I was younger. Yeah, I remember that Matthew character. My girlfriend know that I used to read those type of books when I was younger and she doesn't mind.

It was Jesse's Secret Language! I remember being nuts about the Babysitter's Club books!
