It's 2011 and a lot of things indeed has changed for Deaf/hoh culture. however a few very striking problems in mainstream society still exists today. Perfect example is Netflix and their Hearing followers. "Why should Netflix caption videos it's a waste of effort". comments like these and many more are very frustrating for Deaf/hoh culture to deal with.

I always wondered what if..
What if Deaf/hoh culture founded the Internet and created it so that it was Deaf/hoh only access no mainstream allowed. Would that be fair? of course not unfortunately, the mainstream society segregates us even today. Not just movies/Tv/Cinema but all aspects of life in general. Imagine a Deaf only restaurant, Cinema, cellphones, workspaces, vehicle enhancements, culture awareness, etc.. what would the mainstream say about that? Not fair?

Yeah most of us Deaf/hoh folks know this all too well. Maybe someday we'll rise up and segregate due to inability to share with mainstream society. History shows us so far it hasn't worked.

feel free to share your thoughts, please keep it clean and respectable. This post is meant to support Deaf/hoh culture. Thank you. :)

Yeah, I don't understand why places like Netflix and various entertainment networks don't include captions already designed for shows and movies when showing them on the internet. The captions are already there, so why leave them out?

Movies are made up of tracks, one for picture, one for each language of audio and one for for each language of captions. When converting for download every "extra" bit they leave in makes the file bigger. Therefore to reduce size and download time they only leave the bare essentials, in the US that is the picture and English audio. It is trivial to have different versions for different markets, or just leave everything in the one file.
