Hello. I am taking a class n Deaf Languages and Culture. I am from Trinidad in the Caribbean. Are there any Deaf persons from the Caribbean on this page? I am interested in doing research on the demand for a regional Deaf high school as there is no institute that caters for this need and the Deaf community is not afforded the opportunities of other Deaf communities in other parts of the world.
My primary question is if individuals of the Deaf community would be in favor of the idea of a Deaf boarding school or against in favor of not leaving their homes.
The boarding school idea is because the Deaf community of Trinidad is simply not large enough for it to be in the government of any private businesses to invest in one.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am a hearing person but since taking this class I have become very interested in Deaf Culture, and am very embarrassed by the treatment and perceptions of Deaf individuals in my country.
