Hi. I am in an ITP and have a project to collect stories about interpreting situations where the interpreter may have relayed all the information but still did not communicate effectively because of the difference in hearing and deaf culture. For example, one Deaf woman was in a job evaluation meeting. She had team of 2 terps. She signed about having trouble understanding some words and needed to ask a co-worker what they meant. The way the terp voiced it made it sound as if she was always needing help to do her job. The same issue came up later and a different terp voiced it to show that English is her second language and she sometimes has to get clarification from her peers. This was an instance where the first terp voiced what was signed but didn't include some of the cultural aspects to show the Deaf woman's abilities. If you have any stories where things like this have happened, I'd like to hear about it. Thanks.
