Craigslist sting: Men with Skittles, condoms accused of child-sex attempts
Fifteen men from Orlando, Lake Mary, Maitland, Orange City, St. Cloud, Kissimmee and elsewhere in Florida were accused of trying to have sex with girls.
When they saw ads on Craigslist looking for "guidance' for their daughters, men from around the state responded with offers of help.
And after exchanging emails, instant messages and telephone calls with people they thought were the moms and dads of the young girls, and in some cases the children themselves, they flocked to Polk County.
Many arrived with condoms in their pockets, one toting Red Bull and Vodka and another with a candy treat of Skittles for a 13-year-old girl he expected to meet.
But this was just another in a long line of sting operations the Polk County Sheriff's Office has staged to lure and capture men who travel to have sex with children. This time they nabbed 15, including men from Osceola, Orange, Seminole and Volusia counties, over a four-day period ending Sunday.
"Despite the repeated warnings and media coverage of past operations, these perverted men freely chatted with undercover detectives who posed as men and women online," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. "These men expressed specific desires to prey upon who they believed were innocent children."
Judd said some of the men even sent pornographic images of themselves to the detectives and made very specific requests for sexual activity with the children.
Several of the men said they were willing to "teach" the young girls how to have sex and some even wanted to have sex with the girls and their mothers at the same time, said Sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Eleazer.
Officials are making the following allegations about these 15 suspects:
Brandon Cashen, 31, of Orlando, employed by Dex Marketing, drove from Orlando to the undercover location to have sex with a woman and her 8-year-old daughter. He faces two counts of traveling to meet a minor for sex and one count each of use of a computer to seduce a child and attempted lewd and lascivious exhibition.
Jason Shulman, 36, of Lake Mary, drove to Polk County to have sex with a woman and her 14-year-old niece. He requested that the woman and her niece wear sundresses with nothing on underneath them and to meet him at a convenience store. Instead, Shulman was met by Sheriff's detectives. He faces a charge of traveling to meet a minor for sex.
Javier Alberto Diaz, 23, of Kissimmee, a materials handler for Jet Blue Airlines, drove to the undercover location to have sex with a 14-year-old girl. Diaz was one of many suspects who came to the house with condoms in his pocket. He faces a charge of traveling to meet a minor for sex.
Robert Ferguson, 23, of Maitland, drove to the undercover location to have sex with a 13-year-old girl. Ferguson also came to the house with condoms in his pocket. He faces a charge of traveling to meet a minor for sex.
Tommy Dupre, 33, of St. Cloud, drove to the undercover location to have sex with a 14-year-old girl. When Dupre arrived at the house, one of the undercover sergeants working this investigation recognized Dupre as a youth baseball coach from Lakeland. Dupre admitted he stopped at a gas station on the way to the undercover location to purchase three condoms, which he planned on using to have sex with the child. He faces one count of traveling to meet a minor for sex.
Dominick Overeem, 40, of Orange City, sent emails and made telephone calls to an undercover detective expressing interest in having sex with her and her 14-year-old daughter at the same time. When Overeem arrived at the undercover location, he requested that the "mom" come out to his truck to talk to him. When the undercover female detective came outside, Overeem sped away in the truck, nearly striking the detective in the process. Overeem was apprehended by deputies who were maintaining the perimeter around the house. He faces two counts of traveling to meet a minor for sex and one count each of using a computer to seduce a child, attempted lewd and lascivious exhibition and assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
Kevin Scott, 36, of Sarasota, employed by Global Organic, drove from Sarasota to the undercover location to have sex with a 14-year-old girl. When Scott was arrested, detectives found two condoms in his pocket. He faces charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex and possession of the drug Alprazolam.
Joshua Adam Hunt, 19, of Plant City, a student at Hillsborough Community College, drove from Plant City to the undercover location to have sex with a woman in the presence of her children. Hunt used the screen name of "Blackbelt 185" and told detectives he is an assistant karate instructor at the PlanTeen Recreation Center in Plant City, for people ages 8 to 20 years old. He faces a charge of lewd and lascivious exhibition.
Donald Knuckles, 67, of Lake Placid, drove to the undercover location to have sex with a woman and her 14-year-old daughter. He requested that the woman and her daughter wear see-through lingerie. Knuckles also expressed a desire to have an ongoing relationship with the woman and child after the initial meeting. He faces two counts of traveling to meet a minor for sex and once count each of using a computer to seduce a child and lewd and lascivious exhibition.
William Jackson, 29, of Tampa, sent emails and made telephone calls to an undercover detective expressing interest in having sex with her 10-year-old daughter. Jackson expressed an interest in being the first person to have sex the girl, and said he would bring her candy bars as a reward for sex. He faces two counts of traveling to meet a minor for sex and one count each of using a computer to seduce a child and attempted lewd and lascivious exhibition.
Gregory Alan Archambault II, 22, of New Port Richey, came to the undercover location to engage in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl. Archambault told the undercover detective that when he was 16, he taught an 8-year-old girl how to have sex, and when he was 21, he taught a 12-year-old girl how to have sex. He asked if he and the 14-year-old girl would be able to shower together. He faces a charge of traveling to meet a minor for sex.
Leon Brisson, 33, of Tampa, came to the undercover location to engage in sexual activity with a mother and her 14-year-old daughter. Brisson sent a graphic photo of himself to the undercover detective before coming to the house. After Brisson was placed under arrest, he told detectives he was "here to have sex." He faces two counts of traveling to meet a minor for sex and one count each of using a computer to seduce a child and attempted lewd and lascivious exhibition.
Mark McClure, 44, of Brandon, came to the undercover location to engage in sexual activity with a mother and her 14-year-old daughter. McClure brought Red Bull and vodka with him to the house. He faces two counts of traveling to meet a minor for sex and one count each of using a computer to seduce a child, attempted lewd and lascivious exhibition and resisting arrest without violence.
Robert Chan, 38, of Dunedin, came to the undercover location to engage in sexual activity with a person he thought was a 13-year-old girl he met in a chat room. Chan told the undercover detective posing as a 13-year-old girl during their chat sessions that he would "teach her" how to perform sex acts on him. Chan brought Skittles candy to the home for the girl. He faces two counts of traveling to meet a minor for sex and one count each of using a computer to seduce a child and attempted lewd and lascivious exhibition.
