Are you sick of those annoying computer junk spamming you when you are trying to write email or visiting websites? It happens to me sometimes.. I am getting sick of them!!! I wish there are laws against pop ups..

Actually, Bill Gates is working on something. He is planning on proposing to congress to begin fining people who send spam. If you receive spam and dont' want it... they gotta pay up!

Yeah pop-ups make me totally sick to my stomach. My mother's WinXP computer had the popups that came thru an exploited bug in the Windows Messenger (not the MSN messenger, mind ya) that I'm still trying to figure out how to get rid of 'em. Still working on it and these damned popups are enough to drive me batty for so long.

Worse is if u go to either GeoCities or Tripod, the popups flash too often *AUGH!* But worse is these *ahem* girlie sites with popups that went on and on locking up the computer forcing a restart. The girlie site popups were like playing "Bash the Gopher" at the Chuck E. Cheese but made 100x worse!

rachel I know u wish there were laws against the popups..why don't you put your political skills to a good use and get 'em to pass one? But then pigs will fly before a law like that is passed.

The next computer I'm buying, I'm putting in pop-up killers in the HDD so I can have my websurfing in peace.

I forgot if it is in Control panel or Programs list, but I think here is how: Start > Programs(or Control Panel) > Admin Tools > Services. Then you should see a list and right click on the messenger service, click properties and change it to disable it and turn it off always. and you're done. If I am wrong, I will check this Friday evening and make sure. Let me know if that worked.

I have a yahoo popup blocker......so if i surf the porn stuff there is no annoying pop ups ;)

thx..will try that voodoo trick next time im at my mother's.

Many of those pop-up blockers are fake. They do work, but they have a second task as well. While blocking your pop-ups, they record your every moves and collect most of the information that you send/receive through the internet. I know it sounds pretty bad, but think about it... pop-ups are done two ways. Pop-ups occur because the website has pop-ups. Pop-ups also occur cuz there's a spyware waiting for you to visit websites and then pop-up a window with a spamming advertisement related to that website that you are visiting. What's the trick? The pop-up blocker is probably the man standing in between the spyware and you. You visit a website. Someone sees you visiting it. That pop-up blocker will catch that information. That someone attempts to send you spamming information on that website. The pop-up blocker will catch that information too. You aren't seeing anything, but they are getting everything you do and everything that you're supposed to receive. Therefore, they are plotting up some huge marketing scheme in the near future. Of course, not all pop-up blockers are 100% effective. It is probably because some of those random pop-ups are their own... from what they collected on you. It's one big conspiracy!

I doubt Google's doing this, VampyroX. Of course, the Google's toolbar has an option to send anonymous information, but that can be turned off when you install it. As for other kinds of pop-up blockers, I have no idea which ones does what you say they do. :dunno:

What about Netscape 7.1? It has built-in blocked pop-up ads.

In the next windows xp service pack there will be a popup blocker included. As far as spam goes, there is a solution in the fix for that too. It will involve the computer sending email to solve a mathmatical problem taking about 10-20 seconds to solve per email its sending out. For someone like me, that sends out 3-5 emails a day from home, it means very little. For a spamer, it means they cant send out more then 8000 emails per day. When you think about how each spamer is sending out something like 50 million a day now, and you cut back just 5 spamers from 50 million down to 8000, i see a huge fix. Spam will be to expensive to send, as you'll need a fast processor to solve the puzzle to send the email, the slower older computers wont be able to solve it as fast, thus making them worthless for spam. So, its not a perfect fix, but it will be so costly that it will be cut down several million percent by the end of 2006. So, just hold on 2.5 years and spam will just be something you buy at the store :)

Sure, the option is there. But, does it really get turned off?

Speaking of the pop-ups blocker for MSIE... Microsoft has already released the beta for its pop-up blocker. It's really neat, if you don't want to wait until Microsoft comes out with the service packet, you can download now: http://toolbar.msn.com - I have to say I like MSN's better than Google's Tool. I'd much recommend to wait until the service packet is released (probably in few days or so).

sablescort- here is the information/snapshots from the Microsoft site, http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/using/howto/communicate/stopspam.asp how you can disable the messenger service. I didn't have to do this, I believe my Windows was updated somehow to disable the messenger service.

Hmmm...
"If you receive spam and dont' want it... they gotta pay up!" "Therefore, they are plotting up some huge marketing scheme in the near future." Just WHO'S gonna reap up the dough $$ ?? Or is it MORE for Bill Gates?? :| Go figure...huh?
