Anyone seen the trailer?? It's so wackily bizarre I'm looking forward to it already. I didn't think Johnny Depp could pull off the role of Willy Wonka but I think he just might. I'm so glad Tim Burton's doing it, he does such a great job of so many movies.

This "new" movie should have been a sequel about a grown up Charlie handing off the Chocolate Factory to his successor. NOT a remake of the original with Gene Wilder.

Seems Hollywood has run out of new ideas.

Actually, it is based on the book. Not exactly a remake. The original movie was a musical, this one isn't. Also, this is called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory instead of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The new title is the same title as the book's, unlikely the original movie's title.

Charlie is a boy, he doesn't own the chocolate factory. Gene Wilder played Willy Wonka, the owner. Also, there is a sort of sequel to the book, it's called Charlie and the Magic Elevator, I think.

I agree, it does look very wacky and bizarre. When I saw the preview, I was like... are they for real?

Then I realized... maybe this is a good idea. Johnny Depp does look a bit creepy though.

hey can anyone show the link to the trailer please??

also, didn't Tim Burton direct the 1989 Batman movie?

I thought it was the best Batman movie so far.

No offense taken but no one can bypass Gene Wilder.

The original remains the one for me. That movie was one of a few that really affected me and remain so to this day.

I know that Depp and Burton can do the job but I still would rather remember the original one and how it truly affected me while growing up. Even to this day, every time I unwrap a bar of chocolate, I still think "Will I get the gold wrapper and win a trip?"

But when I showed the film to my two young girls, they were like yawning and said "yeah yeah mommy ..its cool but ...."

Guess the new generations will enjoy this one by Burton and Depp.

I think Johnny Depp can pull it off. Look at him in Benny and Joon, Sleepy Hollow and Edward Scissorhands.

Johnny Depp has worked wonderfully with Tim Burton in some movies in the past. They are one of the best actor-director-combos around!

Yep I've loved Eward Scissorshands and Sleey Hollow...

though they were kinda scary, but hiralous in some parts. :D

I wonder how they are gonna inflate Violet?

good question..lol

and makes me wonder how more brattish Veruca Salt would be in the new film?

and Mike TeeVee..... now would that be Mike DotCom since we are now in the computer age? (remember the original film was made in 1971 when television was in vogue.)

I watched the original 1971 movie again a few months ago and it brought me memories of watching that one way back in the 1970's. I'm gonna show my daughter the first one then when she grows up, I'll let her into the Depp/Burton film.

Yeah Burton did direct the first Batman film. I also consider the first one the best of the lot.

Let me know what your girl thinks of it. Mine thought it was too old fashioned and probably will dig Depp/Burton film more. I don't care anyway as I will remained marked by the original one :) I always remember that Violet and am curious how Burton will replay that scene. It is too hilarious to forget.

yea... And also one more movie He was in... HUGE SHIP fighting w/ghost crew (pretty hillrouius funny) .. I forgot name movie.. Damn forgot name of title movie.. *er um.... *
I'm trying think and jog my memory again.... (will edit it later on)

Im not gonna worry since my little girl is only a year old and showing the 1971 version and repeating the same thing over and over, I hope the first movie will get into her consciousness until she gets to be more older then I'll let her into the new version. I might start doing it when she's about 3 or 4 years old.

I have to admit it may be a bit difficult to get newer generations to appreciate the older versions of differnet films such as the movie being discussed in this thread.

It's the "Pirates of the Caribbean" I agree it is so really hilarious. One of the best pirate movies I have ever seen in my lifetime.

It's Charlie and the Glass Elevator. And I agree, the title is more true to the book. I have fond memories of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory but the title of it is the only thing that annoyed me because Willy Wonka is NOT the focus of the movie, although he is a main character, it's Charlie who is the main focus.

Ah yes, the Glass Elevator! Yup, that's true about Charlie being the main focus. :)
