When threatened with WorldPride 2005, the major leaders of Christianity, Judaism and Islam sat down together in Jerusalem for an all-too-rare show of unity. They discussed the 10-day festival planned by gay leaders worldwide.
Once again, they are faced with the prospect of WorldPride 2006, an international gathering of homosexual, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered individuals scheduled in Jerusalem in August.
They do not want to see in Jerusalem what transpired in San Francisco just weeks ago when the 36th Annual Pride Parade and Celebration took place.
Please show your support of Jerusalem's religious leaders.
As the floats rolled down Market Street, one parade reveler shouted, “I’ll show you my breasts.” Bare breasts and torsos pierced in various places were the norm for the crowds lining the streets.
The Dykes on Bikes, a Lesbian motorcycle troop led the procession. Former San Francisco mayor, Willie Brown, called, “The Dykes on Bikes are where it’s at. That’s what you want to see. The color [in the parade] is just incredible,” said Brown. “The Lord has blessed us.”
As the parade progressed, a Jewish gay couple celebrated a simulated marriage ceremony while the crowd shouted “Mazel Tov!” A supposed church choir in rainbow-colored robes danced down the street.
The deputy mufti of Jerusalem; the patriarch of the Latin church; the patriarch of the Armenian church; the Sephardic chief rabbi, and the Ashkenazi chief rabbi have expressed their concern that the festival would desecrate the holy city and communicate the mistaken impression that homosexuality is acceptable.
They do not want to see in Jerusalem the kind of debauchery that San Francisco witnessed in late June.
One religious leader in Jerusalem said, “They are creating a deep and terrible sorrow that is unbearable. It hurts all of the religions. We are all against it.”
These men asked for the support of Bible-believing Christians.
We MUST answer once again with a resounding “YES!” The Jerusalem Prayer Team can help. Please ask everyone you know to sign the petition today! Print copies and take them to your Sunday school class, Bible study groups, and to your churches.
Gary Bauer of American Values, reflecting on previous WorldPride events said, "They are intentionally picking areas [cities] that are of deep religious significance to millions of believers in an effort to provoke and to insult and to show that they are going to be in our face with their agenda."
The Bible reminds us that some things do not happen without fasting and prayer. I will do both.
Please forward this petition to everyone on your list, and ask them to sign it and forward it. Let’s keep this going around the world. This is our last opportunity to show our support to the clergy in Jerusalem and to Mayor Lupolianski.
Thank you for your support of Jerusalem,
Mike D. Evans
