David Lynch films always freak me out. Watched Eraserhead when I was 18. Once. Never again. Nightmares for days after!

Stanley Kubrick was always one for making odd films. There was never anything in his films that didn't have a meaning - or wasn't supposed to be there. You could read into everything if you wanted to.

I've always enjoyed his films. One of my favorite TV series was Lynch's Twin Peaks, which included an actor I've always loved watching, Ray Wise. Wise was in another film that I guess could be included in the list of weird but good called Dead End, made in 2003 - another one of my favorites....

It was a sweet little film, very different and probably more of an Independent, small budget movie...but it's becoming a cult film, likely due to Ray Wise's influence. The woman that played his wife was in the comedy All About Mary as the room mate of Mary who was always sun bathing and smoking.

It's a fun film if you ever get a chance to see it and it's available for streaming on Netflix with subtitles. What I liked was it was a simple story, a family going to the grandmother's house for Christmas, take a detour off the highway and find themselves lost....and that's where the fun begins.

I will try to find it, I do like movies that different . I hate it when I am watching a new movie and can guess how it's going to end. That is very boring to me .

Just so you know, Dead End is also a very funny film too. It really has the feel of a David Lynch movie but it's not and it's very well done for a small budget film.

And speaking of Lynch, how could I have forgotten Nadja:

Was Nadja based on the book by Andre Breton????!?! I did my psych thesis on him. The "father of surrealist art"... I actually have that book in the other room.

No, I don't believe so. If you watch the vid, it's clearly a dark, funny, vampire story. Probably not...

All this talk about movies, I just bought an old standby favorite and excellent dance film with the late Raul Julia, Tango Bar:

Andre Breton's Nadja is about his relationship with one of his psychotic patients. It's dark. And really weird. And very artistic. And it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. All of his books are extremely poetic and very interpretive. From the trailer I couldn't tell much about what the film is about. I'm going to have to watch it now!

From my recollection of the story, it's pretty straight forward. A woman, whom we later find out is a vampire, comes to an American city to reclaim the body of her father. Her brother, whom she hasn't seen in a number of years, is also in that city and she seeks him out to visit. He doesn't want to see her though. Peter Fonda plays an eccentric vampire killer. I really liked him in this role and I think he's a good actor. He gave a solid performance in The Limey as well.

Regarding the dance VID, Tango Bar is a real classic film that Raul Julia did and it's a highly sought out film because it has some of the biggest names in dance taking part in the movie. If you enjoy it, this is for you. Another really wonderful dance film was called Tango, by director Carlos Saura:

I love dance, but don't have much experience with ballroom or tango or anything. I grew up with tap, jazz, ballet etc....

You should watch The Company with Neve Campbell. It's one of my favorites. Its about the Joffrey Ballet Company... the sets and choreography are incredible.

Ha I know but for me Upside Down wasn't an issue.

Cloverfield is the worse movie of all time, I had a huge ass headache at the end of the movie. The reason I stuck through the ending was I hoped to see "Godzilla" or some creature. Bah.

I puked watching Cloverfield and I even planned ahead after reading reviews and watched it with the lights on to maybe make myself feel less disoriented - no Godzilla.
 
I saw it at the movie theater. It was like reading a whole novel with someone else s prescription glasses.
