UNDER proposed laws before parliament, free-to-air networks will no longer have to provide annual reports to show they are complying with captioning obligations.

Some in the deaf community fear that could be the first step in watering down their requirement to provide 100 per cent captioning from 6am to midnight on primary channels.

Why? Lack of funding?

This is disgusting and blatant discrimination. As if it wasn't hard enough to find accessible media! What a crock of shit.

All the deaf and hoh people should protest by not voting for any of the people next election.

This is in Australia, not USA.

They should protest against the parliament for stopping the close captioned programming. I don't know if it is the lack of funding or the advertising people who could not afford to pay for close captioned on their programs. You have to remember that close captioned programming cost a lot of money to put in the programs and commercials. Yes, we need the close captioned very badly so that we can understand what they are saying on T.V. So now they are just breaking it down to whatever time to have close captioned programming. The OP have to read it in the newspapers and/or news on T.V. about it. :(

"fundings" as an "issue" is a big lie, they just want to use 'lack of money' as easier to excuse to say "no money for" in other words, there's no commitment, they don't give a damn.

"Fundings" is used by 'those' in the 'd/Deaf adminstration" 'trade' if you like....it just a big spin, like officals in the governmental level 'hopes that those in the adminstration duties would find means of moneys from elsewhere but government....shame how alot of people seems to thinks its related to government's money, nope not a chance....its just spunned up to be 'fundings problems' my ass!!
