attended a mainstream school??

This is really true, for me and couple other in school. A lot of the deaf students in my school tend to be academically strong. BTW Dhh means deaf?

dhh= deaf/hard of hearing.

You know, Sometimes I wonder if I would have been better off in a deaf school since it would be easier for me. I know I might have a harder time adjusting since I haven't learn ASL until recently(I learned it years back, but I forgot it when I went mainstream and I'm trying to learn it again.)

One of the things that would really help is kids automaticly starting OUT in deaf ed (either classes or schools) and THEN transistioning to the mainstream, rather then a deaf school/dhh program being the last resort.

Very true.

I did start out in dhh programs/classes before I was mainstreamed. From what I understand I was involved in at least 3 from age 2 to 5 but I only remember 1. Self contained class for the dhh kids (4-5 of us)- I don't remember attending that particular school's kindergarten class (though the class picture shows me as part of it lol). No signing though-- was an oral program... Interestingly many years later mom and I found my old dhh teacher (still working with deaf-hh kids) and one of the kids in her group was one I knew back then... and using ASL. I still wonder where all of them are now.
