Anyone have snow leaking in their home?

I have snow leaking on living room ceiling!! I am pissed of at my condo association as they did not remove the ice and snow from our roofs and gutters so the water would not leak in our homes. I was told nothing can be done until the ice is gone and that mean my ceiling will get worst! I told the manger of my condo that I want a new ceiling put in and he said that is not necessary!
He want me to leave my moldy ceiling in and paint over the water stains!
I am Bull SHIT!! My insurance will not cover the damage as it fall under the condo master insurance!! I feel like not paying my condo fee for a year and having the ceiling fixed myself!! It is not healthy leaving in a moldy ceiling! I think I will call the health department and see what they say!
 
lol id call the fire department and point the electricity risk out... Then they will force the condo to do something, and you can take care of the rest in a court room.

I did not think of that! I will call the fire department tomorrow! We're getting more snow and rain Saturday and I am worried this really leak in my home!
 
Sorry to hear that. If I were you, I'd contact a local professional roof snow removal, to remove heavy snow accumulation from your roof can prevent thousands in damages. You better call the fire department or professional roof snow removal ASAP. Good luck!
 
Is your living room next to the fire retainer wall, meaning cinder blocks wall?
 
first thing you need to do is take hundreds of pics of walls, ceiling, water,roof, ice, amount of snow, pics of other condos with similar roof setup as yours, ask them if they have leaks too.
you also need to have this issue "documented" with thier office. ask for a copy. If they roll their eyes, then you need to keep track of all the times you contacted them about that issue. what does your condo rules say about leaving the condo in worst condition then when you bought it? Do you have furniture by the leaking wall? you need to show you took steps to protect it when you discovered the leak by taking before and after pics. moving the furniture is also good idea. Take pics of bunched up furniture in that room.

I would also contact your local heating/ac hvac company and ask for a energy audit. They can come in with a thermal imaging scanner and show the leak where it MIGHT be coming from. be sure to document this with a camera/video.

As for calling fire dept? hmm I dont think it will work. Calling the fire marshal might work if you have water dripping currently over the plug outlet.
I would call your local town office and ask for the zoning dept and ask what are your rights there.

IF they show blatant attitude, its time to collect info and document stuff.

When worse comees to worse, you have a carefully documented situation where you can actually move and "keep costs down". You most likely wont get money out of it, but moving to protect yourself is the best way to handle it in small claims court.

refusing to pay for condo fee for a year is the last thing you'd want to do. don't put yourself in position much worse than now. at least you'd have a stronger case that way because you can say - "i pay for condo fee and this is what I get?"
 
Certainly sounds like you have ice dams. The damage can be quite costly to repair.

My computer has crashed on me 2x times trying you back to you! I will try it one more time! I agree with you that it would not be good to refuse to pay my condo fee! I was so up set with being told that I had to sit and watch my ceiling get worst! I have told my condo ass. that I was not happy with the way our driveway was being plowed and that I paid money and expected a better job! I called the fire department and 4 firemen came to my condo! I was told that there was so water trapped in my ceiling and was asked if I had any buckets! A fireman told that when they got back to the station they where going to call my condo office and tell them to they have to do something for me! I got a call from my condo and was told a roofer was coming over Saturday!! I am sure the condo was not happy about me calling the fire department on them , but I could less! It would had been my head the ceiling could had fell on!

My condo is brick building ,and we had a new wooden deck put on in the summer, I am thinking maybe the work was no good . The snow was not being removed from the roof , it was left there to build up and the ice was being knocked off! I was telling a friend two days this happen that i was worried about my building! If I had called the office no would had listen to me! I had told the office for years that windows needed to be painted and as I been here over 30 years and the trim was never painted! When the work was finally done some windows had rotten wood on them! The guy is a sexist pig and does not like to be told thing by a woman!

Yeah, it's very common for many of condo owner, they only look at money first and repair last.
What I'm saying that the fire retainer wall, where brick walls divided between the condos or few apts to prevent fire passed through to another room. So where the roof meet the fire retainer wall are commonly known where the leak are. SO, I was curious about it. Glad you got it resolved with fire dept because many land owners don't want to get violations and heavy fines.

You don't need to be worried about collapse. drywall is very forgiving, if it gets wet and saturated from a leak, it will only sag and fall in that one spot.

When a freind had water leaking in his laundry room, I drilled 3 holes in ceiling drywall to let water drain out and dry up till leak is fixed. one leak is fixed, and drywall feels solid, it can be plastered over since it was a one time thing. IF you had leak before in same spot, drywall will need to be taken down by a abatement specialist (read expensive). a abatement specialist is the one who also do asbestos removal. they have knowledge and equipment to handle mold issues. Since this is your first time, and fire dept looked at your home and said you have water, you need to get a statement from them as well pictures of roofers working on your roof before and after. You need to do this to have records if it happens again due to poor work or unfound issues.

I do not beleive its a ice damming issue. again you need to get a energy audit done to prove it its not the lack or poor insulation causing the warming of snow leaking or missing ice/dam shield under the roofing shingles.

I am a handyman that does this kind of stuff for years , so I know where you are coming from.

I was worried about my ceiling or roof collapsing ! The condo manger can to my home and told my ceiling could get worst , and that he was not going have one of his guy go up on the roof! The ass wanted me to sit and watch my ceiling get worst and have water pouring all over my living room! No way ! I was told the roofer was coming around 9.00 A M today , I waited till 11:30 and called the office , I was not sure if the guy had to come in my home and I thought I may not had heard him knock. I wanted to get to the store as we are having more snow tonight! The condo manger called me and did not let the phone ring long enough, he know my hearing dog dies but the ass still did not let the phone ring long enough! He was really pissed that I called the fire department on him! Tough shit! The roofer did finally showup and knock some snow of the roof. It was only one part of the roof and not the whole roof! I am going to call the health department Monday , but my city has real lousy health department! I am thinking of getting a lawyer and tell my condo assoc. if they have anything to say to me they can talk to my lawyer! I had it with them. I would love to find another condo and tell my condo assoc. if they do not want to deal with me any more they can buy me out! As I am not going to back down!
I will stand up for my rights! I know the condo manger does NOT like it that I a woman dare to talk back him !
