An International Academy of Deaf Sports and Education (IADSE) in its wings will soon produce 'Iqbals' in reality.

The Academy, to be set up here soon, will encourage those having impaired hearing and speech problems to take up sports, especially cricket, and reach the highest level, as the protagonist in the Nagesh Kukunoor's movie 'Iqbal' does.

"The main purpose of the Academy is to develop sports talent, primarily cricket, by tapping young talents among the deaf," Deaf Cricket International Federation (DCIF) chairman Kashmira Singh said.

Singh, who is also the president of the organising committee of the Second Deaf World Cup Cricket Tournament beginning here from November 17, said the Academy would have the state-of-the art facilities with the best coaches and scientific system of education for the special sportspersons.

"The Academy, to be built on 25 acres of land, will have a cricket ground, a hostel and classrooms equipped with computers.

"The idea is to have all the facilities under one roof so that the potential in a deaf child can be exploited in the best possible way," Singh said.

The DCIF Chairman hoped that players would also make it to the national cricket team. "Even now, we have three Ranji Trophy players in our national deaf and dumb cricket team." "The deaf and dumb cricketres have a distinct advantage. No one can disturb their concentration and they are also physically tougher than normal cricketers," he said.
