Academies expansion is worrying for deaf pupils

I respect what you did and you deserve a prop for what you have accomplished. However... Do you realize how many people throw million of dollars at something and problem never got solved?

Throwing money at problem isn't going to fix a thing in most case.

As for my area... LOL! That would be incredibly stupid. The city isn't that big at all and most people have never heard of city and often mistook it for another city. But go ahead and try to find my area and see how much you can raise when there's probably only 30 or so deaf students from elementary to high school and less 10 in college/university.
Go find some bigger city to worry about.

What I am doing does not require millions of dollars. Matter of fact its education and will save the government probably billions when they see it.

You're from Nor Cal, right? So yeah, I'll be in the bay area.

Again, you might would like to brush up on that reading of yours. When I say area, i mean within 2 hours driving distance. (Note: I did not say your city.)

People have been saying that about throwing money at problem for centuries. But let wait and see the outcome.

Bay area is still a long way from where I am. And yes I live in Nor Cal.

in other word.... you prefer "do nothing"?

I do help others but just in a different way. Mostly... I focus on my own life and do what make me happy.

What we have been doing for a century - throwing away billions a year and we still have 70% unemployment rate.

All the audiologists, all the CI implants, all the SEE systems, all the special needs people, the mappings, the specialists to prescribe right hearing equipment, the researchers, the everything...

It is not working. :)

Lets start with throwing all that out, aye? And reinvest that money into Deaf Education.

Well when you make a huge change in large number of deaf people life and your name get pasted on news paper, Time magazine, etc... Then I will acknowledge that your advocating actually help. But as far as I know, you're just a hot air.

Me... I choose to live my life for myself and help only few selected people and am fine with that.

Actually I can state from personal experience that yes PFH is a great advocate and has actually helped someones life when referring to deafness.

Someone being me, so no not just hot air

Well... Here's a story that I live by...

One day a man was walking along the beach. Every time he see a starfish, he pick it up and toss it back into the ocean. When another man walk up and ask him why he's doing it? He cannot save all starfish in the world. The man picked up another starfish and shrugs and say "I cannot but to this one, it mean the world" and toss it back in the water.

So, yes I help only few person out but make a bigger impact on their life.

You... You help large number of people but make much smaller impact. What you are doing is something that take team effort. So it take much more time and work to make a big change.

I will give it to you, what you guys do will have bigger impact on the world in general though.

As for why I do nothing, I just don't care and have no interest.

Crab theory much?

So, whats your life's goals? Sit around, eat, work, breed, troll on AD, then sleep? Rinse and repeat?

Pray tell - tell me its not that.

Ok reinvest money into deaf education then what? The teachers get paid better, more equips, etc... That is what they will do. That will not help the teacher to become a better teacher for the deaf.

I stated that I think the problem with deaf education is, most special education teacher don't know how to do their job.

I think what would help is better training, more rigid screening, more closer supervisor of the class, etc...

It is all your money and organization. But my opinion is, it is better to invest money into research on teacher for the deaf then recruit the one with most number of students who succeed and have them train the next generation of teacher for deaf.
I don't think throwing money at school and stuff is going to help.

ah.... so you prefer to live a selfish life and do nothing about others? Yea that explains your bitter posts about deaf community in here.

What makes me happy is helping other people to excel me because I know for sure that they will do same for other people.

Lives are that beautiful to me. Notice that I used the plural form of "life".

I do have a goal and am working on it. I want to have a house or two and rent rooms out to local college students, especially those major in arts to help them out.
That is just one of goal.

wow.... that's so depressing.... I actually cried (mentally)... :(

Here's how I do it.

"I cannot save all starfish in the world." I picked up another starfish and said "I hope you can help me to save more starfish" and toss it back in the water. The man got inspired and joined my cause. Later... more and more people joined the cause.

:)

Just an example:

Get rid of these teacher who dont know crap, and get rid of these resource room teachers, and GET RID OF INTERPRETERS.

Replacement:
Teacher who is fluent in ASL and strong knowledge of the deafness and the culture.

3 people out, 1 in.

The surplus this generates is easily in the tens of millions a year per state - and that can be redistributed to other projects. (non deaf related)

I am having tears.... So beautiful.

Reminds me of ingrid newkirk...

Get rid of interpreter?

How would that work? I am curious because in middle school and high school (And school for deaf), hearing students tend to have different teachers who specialize in each subject.
So how would one teacher be able to specialize in and teach each subjects?
But I am sure if there's a way to make this work, that will work out great.

Jiro, that's a great way to think. I may do that one day eventually. As for right now I am content with what I'm doing.

Wow, now I am at a loss of words.

Raise your right hand, way above your head, turn it sideway, away from your body. Now do the same with your left, but put it next to your right, facing away from your body. Climb out. Take a look, please.

I guess I pointed out a loop hole in your theory and now you're upset. I am trying to understand what you mean exactly and that was your best reply? I bet all of your money is going awaste then. You have prove yourself to be a incredibly poor advocate.

Unless... You mean each teachers in public school are require to know ASL and be aware of deaf culture then... you just magnification the problem 100X more.

Some advocate you are!
