I read an article in the news today about corrupt local government officials in China putting people into mental hospitals to prevent them from going to the national government to report on the corruption. 
Traditionally, people would go to the capital to petition for the redressing of local corruption and the local officials in the city Xintai in the province of Shandong had been stopping that by putting the people into mental hospitals, drugging them and not releasing them until they sign a paper saying that they'll drop whatever they were going to complain about. Now they're doing investigations into the abuses. Hopefully, they'll take care of those evil officials.
