OK folks now this a new topic for the playoffs only.. I will provide info and updates and etc....

First, the division champions are Detroit (Central), Minnesota (Northwest), San Jose (Pacific), Montreal (Northeast), Pittsburgh (Atlantic) and Washington (Southeast).... Washington certainly is the biggest news ever as the Capitals managed to kill the Carolina Hurricanes' chance to be in the playoff as division champs... wow....

Now the matchups for the Conference Quarterfinals with playoff history:

Western Conference
#8 Nashville Predators @ #1 Detroit Red Wings - Detroit and Nashville will clash for the 2nd time ever in the playoffs... Detroit do have a playoff series win over Nashville in the 2004 playoffs (Det 4 @ Nash 2 in Western Conference Quarterfinals)... so could Nashville try to knock off the mighty Red Wings or will Detroit swat aside Nashville??

#7 Calgary Flames @ #2 San Jose Sharks - Calgary and San Jose will meet for the 3rd time .. both clubs have 1 playoff series win each... 1995 SJ 4 @ Cgy 3 in Western Conference Quarterfinals, 2004 Cgy 4 @ SJ 2 in Western Conference Final... will the Flames continue to surge or will the Sharks put out a massive bite?

#6 Colorado Avalanche @ #3 Minnesota Wild - Colorado and Minnesota has met once before, 2003 Min 4 @ Col 3 in Western Conference Quarterfinals... will the Wild, fresh off their first ever division title beat the Avs who are back in the playoffs after a year absence? Or will Colorado try to go on a rumble, snowing out the Wild?

#5 Dallas Stars @ #4 Anaheim Ducks - Dallas and Anaheim has one playoff meeting, 2003 Ana 4 @ Dall 2 in Western Conference Semifinals... can the defending Stanley Cup champs, the Ducks try for a 2nd title or will Marty Torco and the Stars stiff the Ducks and end their season???

Eastern Conference
#7 Ottawa Senators @ #2 Pittsburgh Penguins - Ottawa and Pittsburgh meet for the 2nd straight year as Ottawa beat Pittsburgh 4 games to 1 last year in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals... will Pittsburgh be ready to fly and advance against the defending 2007 Eastern Conference champs Senators who have started out hot at the start of the season but went into a swoon and recovered somehow at the end of this season?

#6 Philadelphia Flyers @ #3 Washington Capitals - Philly and Washington meet for the 5th time... 1984 Wsh 3 @ Phi 0 in Patrick Division semifinal, 1987 Phil 4 @ Wsh 3 in Patrick Division semifinal, 1988 Wsh 4 @ Phil 3 in Patrick Division semifinal, 1989 Phil 4 @ Wsh 3 in Patrick Division semifinal... will the Flyers be ready to fly after 1 year out of the playoffs against the surprise team the Capitals led by possible Hart Trophy winner Alexander Overchin? Will the Capitals go on a good roll or be thrashed out?

#5 New York Rangers @ #4 New Jersey Devils - NYR and NJ has met 4 times before... 1992 NYR 4 @ NJ 3 in Patrick Division Semifinal, 1994 NYR 4 @ NJ 3 in Eastern Conference Final, 1997 NYR 4 @ NJ 1 in Eastern Conference semifinal, 2006 NJ 4 @ NYR 0 in Eastern Conference Quarterfinals... can the Rangers try to ride Jagr all the way against the Devils or will NJ make the new arena a playoff success for a Cup?

Last series I have saved here is the massive and historial series...
#8 Boston Bruins @ #1 Montreal Canadiens - ladies and gentlemen we are witnessing the 31th playoff meeting between Boston and Montreal!!! Oh wow what a long long history of meetings.... can Montreal, who is the biggest and wonderful surprise as the new 2008 Eastern Conference champs for the regular season with the first division title since 1993 go on a good run vs the Bruins who had to battle to get into the playoffs?? Will Boston growl or roll over?

Now be prepared for a long long read on the series history!!!!

Yeow yeow!!!! Long long time to type all this info in!!! WOW...
any predictions?? LOL do post...

OK first update....

Eastern Conference

Montreal has a 2 games to none lead over Boston after tonite's game which the Habs won 3-2 in overtime as a result of the Bruins' penalty which was really something that the Bruins coach was seen hollaring and yelling at the ref for that penalty..... could the Canadiens do the unthinkable and sweep the Bruins at home for game 3 and 4?? I think Boston might win a game but that might be it... ohhh

NY Rangers have a 2 games to 0 stranglehold on New Jersey... gotta wonder if the Rangers are dominating the Devils good enough like in the regular season?? BTW the Rangers won the regular season series 7-1-0-0 over NJ.. will that domination continue and maybe the Rangers can sweep the Devils out?? Ouch!!!!!!!

Pittsburgh certainly look to be so strong having a 2 games to 0 lead over the 2007 Eastern Conference champs, Ottawa..but the Senators will have a chance to bounce back at home for game 3 and 4 starting on Monday... can that be done or will the Sens be readying to hit the golf course soon enough?? Time will see on this...

Washington has managed to squeak out a 5-4 win in Game 1 vs Philly, after the Capitals have missed the playoffs from 2003 to 2007 and can Oveckhin lead the Caps to another victory for a 2 games to 0 lead?? Or will the Flyers roar back and even the series?

Western Conference

Detroit has managed to silence Nashville with a 2 games to 0 lead and I have to wonder if the Predators can wake up and get back into the series or the Red Wings will cruise on to a series victory?? Bllahhhh...

Calgary and San Jose are tied 1 game apart and there gonna be something fun to do once Game 4 is at the Flames' rink for tomorrow.. will the Flames roar to a 2 games to 1 lead with the home crowd getting louder or will the Sharks silence that all??

Colorado and Minnesota got a game victory apart but the Avs have suffered an overtime loss in Game 2 to Minnesota and will the Avs bounce back or will the Wild get set for a 2 games to 1 lead?

Dallas looks to be handling the 2007 Stanley Cup champs easily as the Stars just won tonite 5-2 in Game 2 and has a 2 games to 0 lead.. is it the end for the Ducks or will the Ducks quack louder and get back in?? Time will see on this however!!!

Ducks will get back in time :nana:

Like I say, Ocean.. time will tell if the Ducks can get back into the series with Dallas or not...and as I told ya back in im some time ago, the Ducks need to quit being stupid with lots of penalties..that's their downfall and Dallas is taking advantage good enough...

Looking forward to Penguins skating all the way to the cup!

BTW, I do like the Ducks!

DHB,

Next update...

Folks, we will be seeing a sweep in the playoffs in the form of the Pittsburgh Penguins who are 1 game away from sweeping out the 2007 Eastern Conference champs, the Ottawa Senators... Pittsburgh leads 3 games to 0 with game 4 stated for tomorrow.. will Pittsburgh bring out the brooms or will Ottawa wake up and battle hard to win a game and try for a 2nd win in a row for game 6?

Thanks for the update....

Pensultimate!

Good choice DBH :) another one who likes the Anaheim Ducks. Yes, Penguins are looking good.

Folks... new update!!!

We have a official sweep... Pittsburgh has brought out the brooms and swept out Ottawa 4 games to 0.. now Pittsburgh will rest up and wait to see who the next round opponents will be.. so it gonna be interesting to see who....

Eastern Conference:

Montreal still has a chance to end the series tomorrow night (April 19) as the Habs lost game 5 to Boston yesterday so the Habs lead the series 3 games to 2.. can Montreal finally get it over with or will the pesky Bruins try for a tied series and force a 1 game winner take all?? Ohhhh mannnn...

NY Rangers will have to try to end the series tonite vs New Jersey as the series lead is 3 games to 1.. one has to think the Devils will play hard to force game 6 or will the rangers simply swat the devils aside??

Philadelphia has taken a 3 games to 1 lead, on the game 4 double overtime win last night vs Washington 4-3... can the Flyers put away the surprising Captials or will Washington come back and win game 5?

Pittsburgh - Ottawa Series over... Pitt win 4 games to 0...

Western Conference:

Detroit and Nashville clash tonite in Game 5 for whoever to win that game to take a 3 games to 2 lead (I hope to hell Nashville win or there gonna be hell to pay for!!!)

San Jose has managed to seize a 3 games to 2 lead over Calgary after last night's game 5 win by the score of 4-2.. do the Sharks h ave it to end the series on Sunday night or will the Flames flicker back to life and force a game 7???

Colorado is 1 game away from sending the Minnesota Wild home from the playoffs, can the Avs do it and finally put that team away or will the Wild come back and try for a 1 game take all winner ?

Dallas is on the way to boot the defending Stanley Cup champs, the Anaheim Ducks, out of the playoffs and might do it tonite as the Stars are leading 3 games to 1.. is the Ducks desperate to win or will the Stars shoot them down? that remains to be seen tonite!!!!

Fast update..

Detroit has taken a 3 games to 2 lead after winning 2-1 in overtime in game 5!! Now I think the Red Wings might try to end the series Sunday afternoon but the Predators will have something to say and force a game 7 or so...

The New York Rangers have sent the New Jersey Devils home for the summer after winning game 5 by the score of 5-3 and the series 4 games to 1.. now the Rangers will have to wait to see if they might play Pittsburgh in the second round but they along with Pittsburgh will have to see how the Montreal/Boston and Philly/Washington series plays out...

Tonite Dallas takes on Anaheim and there is something to be seen.. will the Stars be ready to kick the Ducks out or will the Ducks quack harder and get back into the series with a win? will know by end of game tonite!!!

Next update....

Detroit has kicked Nashville to the curb, winning the series 4 games to 2 and will await whoever come out of the San Jose/Calgary series as well as the Anaheim/Dallas series and also that Colorado is waiting after beating Minnesota 4 games to 2 last night as well... tomorrow Game 6 of the Philly/Washington series will determine whether Philly will end the series or Washington to force a game 7!!! AND finally the Boston/Montreal series will come to a head tomorrow for Game 7 as well.. acckkk jsut as I thought the Canadiens would end the series fast enough but the Bruins have roared back and forced the winner-take all game... oh boy that gonna be something to watch for!!!!

Fast Update...

San Jose and Calgary are now tied in the series 3-3 and will have to decide Game 7 on tuesday in San Jose!!

AND Dallas has booted the 2007 Stanley Cup champs Anaheim out with a 4 games to 2 series victory tonite.. so the Ducks are done .. and there will be a new Stanley Cup champion for 2008!!!

Next update...

OK folks... the Montreal Canadiens have managed to get a 5-0 victory in Game 7 over Boston Bruins and now will wait to see who will finish the Washington-Philadelphia series in which Washington has once again stayed alive with a 4-2 win in Game 6 to play Game 7 which is tomorrow!!!! WHOA man!!!

The only Western Conference series that has to finish is the Calgary Flames/San Jose Sharks series.. Game 7 is tomorrow night and we will know who will join Detroit, Colorado and Dallas in the Conference Semifinals.....

Flyers better be win tonight or I riot at DC

Farewall... I must say ya a rabid Flyers fan eh? LOL yeah I was surprised that Philly didnt win (should have won Game 5 to end the series but the pesky Capitals came back....) and will have to deal with pressure for tonite's game... ohhh that gonna be nuts enough... I also have to deal with Calgary vs San Jose tonite too!!! Should be fun!!!

Folks... the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs have come to an end tonite..
