‘The Deaf Duckling’ in Wadena December 3 | DL-Online | Detroit Lakes, Minnesota
Mixed Blood Theatre of Minneapolis presents “The Deaf Duckling” at Wadena Memorial Auditorium on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m.
“The Deaf Duckling,” written and directed by Aditi Kapil, deftly intertwines the familiar fairy tale with the story of a deaf child born into a hearing family. With great tenderness and humor, it reveals the child’s growing awareness of the possibilities that come with inclusion in a vibrant but often overlooked culture.
This innovative play fully integrates American Sign Languate (ASL) into the performance — there’s no ping-ponging from actor to interpreter and back again. It makes for a performance that is refreshing for deaf audiences and laced with new vitality for hearing ones.
General admission is $10 on the night of performance or $8 in advance. Students are admitted free. Tickets are available at Borealis Books and at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center, 218-385-3339.
This performance is made possible by a grant from 5 Wings Arts Council, through funds provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board with an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature. Special program sponsor is Borealis Books of Wadena.
