Service rendered at deaf and dumb school is in no way inferior to prayers offered at temples and churches, said General Manager (P and A) of VISL Jeevesh Mishra.

He was addressing the gathering at Taranga School for Deaf after inaugurating the computer facility and distributing the hearing aids to the children. The very access to the school makes one feel being present in a sacred religious place, he said.

Citing the example of B S Chandrashekar and M A K Pataudi, the greatest cricketers of yesteryears, he said that physical limitations had forced them to explore the opportunities daringly.

Given the best education and opportunity there is no reason why a deaf and dumb does not excel in computer literacy, he noted. While lauding the smiling service rendered to the students, who were hard of hearing, he assured total support and cooperation from Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant management for the betterment of the school.

Deputy General Manager of VISL A Rangarajan said that Taranga School was instilling confidence, courage, enthusiasm and awareness among its students that was much essential to lead a reasonably satisfactory life.

VISL was encouraging the enlightening institutions under labour and social welfare activities and would be glad to support this school also, he announced.

Senior Manager (Town Administration) of VISL Hanumanthappa acclaimed the concern of Lions Club Sugar Town and Shivabhadra Trust, which were jointly running this school for deaf and dumb since over two decades.

Lions Club Sugar Town President Ghisulal Mehta spoke. Dance performance to the pre-recorded Marathi and Kannada folk songs by the students left the spectators spellbound.

None among the dancers lost the rhythm and pitch of the tune especially when they were deprived of perceiving the sound. Students could perform well with the support and training by teachers Rathnamma and Shakuntala.

The mute skit highlighting the conservation of natural vegetation effectively conveyed the message to the spectators.

Dr T Narendra Bhat introduced the guests and welcomed. Professor V S Shekar compeered. Audiologist Nageshwari proposed vote of thanks.
