    New hearing aids

I'm just curious, but why won't you get them again?

Man forced to surrender his 'offensive' star trek license plate

Hmmm...I'm pretty sure that's not what the plate is referring to. LOL

    New hearing aids

I wear Oticon Alta 2s - not the pro version. If it helps you to know this, I have a mild hearing loss in my left ear and a moderate-moderately severe loss in my right. When I started out wearing hearing aids 3.5 years ago, I only used one HA in my right ear because I had only a slight loss in my...

Man forced to surrender his 'offensive' star trek license plate

No, I didn't. Personally, I do find that kind of language offensive, but I realize that not everyone feels the same way. For me, it's not worth initiating a formal complaint. Thankfully my kids are too young to get what the plate meant when they saw it!

    Interesting question....

Yes. Changes in weather, particularly changes in atmospheric pressure such as occur with storms or sudden drastic weather changes, can affect both hearing and headaches. I get significant headaches, sinus pressure, and a 10-15 dB change (for the worse) in my hearing when the weather takes a...

Man forced to surrender his 'offensive' star trek license plate

This scares me a little. I recently saw a license plate that read "MTHRFCKR". (I live in Canada). I find it hard to believe that ASIMIL8 is more offensive than that! Sheesh!

Thank you. I will take a look at that site.

To the "people"who stare at my child or feel sorry for her..

I, too, am sorry you are going through this. People can be so insensitive sometimes :( From what you have described, Maggie has the perfect amount of language for her age. Regardless of which language it is, from a growth and development perspective, it's still language. It sounds like you and...

    Learn asl online resources?

I remember reading a post here in the last month or so that listed several good "learn ASL online" websites, but now I can't find the post, so I'm wondering if someone can recommend some sites again? Or can someone point me to the aforementioned thread? I understand that it is always preferable...

    Poll of all polls

I'm a hearing aid user. I got one for my right (worse) ear in 2013 - at age 40 - for moderate hearing loss secondary to an enlarged vestibular aqueduct, and then got a second for my left (better) ear in 2015 for a mild hearing loss. Now my loss is closer to moderately severe in my right, and...

Why do you hate video remote interpreting (vri)????

Hmmm. Not d/Deaf here, but HOH so I don't need or use an interpreter at this point in time, although I do sign (minimally) and am re-learning ASL to what I hope will become fluency level. I feel the need to comment on this because I take issue with hospitals (and other social/service agencies)...

Whats your motivation to get up in the mornings?

My kids. I'm not sure if they actually *motivate* me (in the true sense of the word) to get up, but they leave me without a choice as to whether or not I want to get up, so I guess that's some form of motivation ;) They are 4.5 and 6 years old and are early risers. My youngest likes to roll out...

There is shooting in quebec city

From what I've read on CBCs website and a few other local news sites, there were originally two suspects; however, it was later determined that one of them was a witness to the attack (who was not charged), and the other was the alleged killer (who has since been charged). Here's a link to that...

There is shooting in quebec city

What happened in Quebec is truly a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to those families and friends who lost loved ones in this senseless act of violence. For once, I actually appreciate Trudeau's response. I haven't been much of a fan of his thus far, but in my opinion, his response to...

    Unilaterally hoh

Welcome to All Deaf! Your hearing loss story is very similar to mine, right down to which ear is worse and which is better. I hope you find this forum to be a great source of information and camaraderie. Have fun learning ASL. It's a beautiful language!

    Smartwatch recommendations?

I have a Fitbit Charge and use the vibrating alarm to wake me up in the morning. I'm a very deep sleeper, and so far the irregular vibrations of this alarm have failed to wake me less than a handful of times since I got it in February. I also use the vibrating notification system to alert me to...

    Chattanooga, tennessee bus crash update

I can't even begin to imagine what the families and friends of the children who died are going through! Honestly, it just brings tears to my eyes. I've been hugging my children a little tighter these days.

    Chattanooga, tennessee bus crash update

There have been some disturbing updates on the November 21st Chattanooga bus crash that killed 6 students and injured many more. I believe the findings were expected, but it's still horribly disturbing to know that someone in charge of caring for young children could be so incredibly...

    Walk4Hearing

Dogmom, what niceties are you referring to? I'm not trying to start an argument; I genuinely want to know what you mean when you say the organization is about "more than benign advocacy". I'm not from the U.S., so since I can't attend an HLAA meeting, I have no idea if their website accurately...

    Hello

Reba - That was my point. I actually clearly wrote that when compared with English, ASL seems backwards. I didn't at any point say that ASL IS backwards. (In fact, I specifically clarified that I was NOT saying ASL is backwards.) My use of the word "backwards" was actually in reference to the...
