Is it okay for someone with hearing to teach deaf students?

Well, one was for ASL. Another was for Psychology and another for US History! And I feel like I need to be immersed in the culture fully understand it, just my opinion. You can't simply major in ASL or Interpreting and think that you know everything, right? :)

I've had three deaf teachers and I'm hearing! They've been some of the best I've had!

Is it okay for someone with hearing to teach deaf students?

I've also been thinking of persuing Deaf Education (3rd or 4th grade). I've gotten a lot of different opinions on hearing teachers for deaf students. But I hope to satisfy both sides by going in depth with my Deaf Culture studies. I'm attending a community college right now and have a guaranteed...

Chelsea Lately's Heather McDonald makes fun of Marlee Matlin's voice.

I'm not trying to "stand up" for anyone. But I understand. Just please go a little easy on me. I really am trying. And thank you C.C. :(

Chelsea Lately's Heather McDonald makes fun of Marlee Matlin's voice.

NO! God, everything I say is taken out of context. I'm not even going to try to explain anything anymore. I don't want to be misunderstood again.

Chelsea Lately's Heather McDonald makes fun of Marlee Matlin's voice.

Well, with Marlee being Deaf and Heather basing her imitation off of that, she's making fun of all Deaf individuals. Sorry I guess I didn't make myself clear.

Chelsea Lately's Heather McDonald makes fun of Marlee Matlin's voice.

And she also said this: RT @carpesomediem Y'know what, though? @mcdonaldeather & @chelsealately would think it's funny. --- NAH. I'm thinking about my deaf friends. So no, it's not about her.

Chelsea Lately's Heather McDonald makes fun of Marlee Matlin's voice.

Two of them said that it was because of the way she was holding her lips? I don't see how it's any different. But then again, I'm not deaf. My other friend Zach is HoH so he could hear the majority of what she said.

Chelsea Lately's Heather McDonald makes fun of Marlee Matlin's voice.

Never, at any time, did I say that it was only because of Marlee. I have a lot of Deaf friends who saw that episode and were really upset. Please don't make assumptions about me. Yes, I'm a fan. But it could've been any Deaf person that they were making fun of. I would've felt exactly the same.

Chelsea Lately's Heather McDonald makes fun of Marlee Matlin's voice.

Start at 5:00. Heather (talking about the L Word) : "But I love it, I watch it every Sunday. But I don't love every character in it. Like Marlee Matlin's on it. And I don't like the part she plays because she's so argumentative with her lover. She's always like (this is where the "deaf talk"...

Chelsea Lately's Heather McDonald makes fun of Marlee Matlin's voice.

While talking about Marlee Matlin's character on the show "The L Word", Heather proceeded to mock Marlee by using a "deaf" voice and pretending to sign. Many are trying to say that she was merely making fun of the character she plays. I disagree. What do you think? Sorry, I tried forever to find...

What Ticks You Off (Most) About Hearies?

From a hearie/interpreting perspective. I get a little angry at hearing people too! :giggle: If I'm signing with a Deaf friend, people will constantly ask me what he/she is saying. In a private conversation! Also, a lot of people speak to me when I'm interpreting. "Ask him/her this...tell...

Marlee Matlin into deaf culture or not?

I'll Scream Later was amazing. But I'm biased. And of course it was all about her. It was an autobiography. And it talked A LOT about her growing up deaf in Morton Grove and how she tried to break any barriers there might have been for Deaf actors. It IS pretty subtle though. I caught more of it...
