    Phonak Naida V UP

I have been using a pair of Naida V UP for about 7 weeks now. I wore Unitron Element 16s for 2 years prior. I do make use of a Smartlink FM device. The Naidas are more powerful and do help with overall comprehension. They do much better outside when I work and sweat. I can acutally use them...

    Does it annoy you when....

I used to carry spare batteries around with me. Had them in the car, in the office desk, on a key chain in my pocket. The batteries I get from my audiologist are supposed to last 10-14 days. Well, that might be so, but you can never predict when they will go out, so now I just put in a fresh...

    Naida H.A.

This is an interesting thread. I am supposed to go try a pair of Naida HA on Thursday. I have been wearing two Unitron Element 16's for the past two years. I am having more and more trouble understanding speech. I am considering a CI. But before I do that my cousing (an Audi) wants me to try the...

Not Deaf enough for Deaf people/way too deaf for hearing people

I completely understand the feeling of being between two worlds. I use my HAs so that I can keep working. But my signing skills are weak and I do not have many opportunities to improve them. However, I have never encountered any Deaf members who were critical of my trying to sign and talk at the...

    MLB "Hot Stove"

If you are a National League fan watch out for the Dodgers this year. Being a life-long Astro fan, I have a strong dislike for the Dodgers, but they have made some shrewd signings so far.

    Soft or Hard Ear Molds?

I wear the soft molds and have no problems with them, except the natural oils and wax in your ears discolors the mold. Tried the hard molds, got constant feedback everytime I smiled or opened my mouth. The wife said to just keep my mouth shut. :) Lee

    Opinions about hearing aids

I wear 2 BTE Unitron Element 16s. I prefer soft earmolds. It is a love hate relationship. I love that I can hear conversations in quiet environments and can use a telephone. I like the T-coil system that allows me to use an induction loop to hear TV and microphones in wired environments. I hate...

    Is it worth it?

I lost my hearing about 18 months ago. I do not have any deaf friends either and still work in the hearing world. I am taking ASL classes however. I attend the classes and go to socials to help me learn more. I use my signing skills with my wife (small though they are) when I am not wearing my...

    in tears today..

I understand your frustration. I used to wear a CIC. It did not give me any benefits. I now were two BTE, Unitron Elements. There are still many days when I cannot hear or more specifically understand people in my job. I suppose that one of these days it will affect my keeping that job.

    BASEBALL talk

How many managers could Manny play for? If you ask your players to hustle all the time, he is not your guy. But then my Astros have a few guys like that too. Griffey is getting a chance to play for a contender. At this point in his career that is probably most important.

    Uniton hearing aids

I wear 2 Unitron Element 16. I have not worn any others. I used to like the dampening effect on loud noises. But since my hearing is continuing to fade, it kicks in too easily and makes it more difficult to understand. Batteries last one week.

Do you love your hearing aids?

I have a love/hate relationship with my HAs. I like that they enable me to keep working at my job and hear people. But to do so, I have to be in a quiet environment with only one person speaking to understand what is said. I actually like the times when I do not have to wear my HAs.

    Hearies attending deaf socials

As a requirement of the ASL class I am taking I am required to attend several Deaf socials in my community. And while I understand and agree that staring/eavesdropping on a conversation is rude, it is also very difficult to join in when your vocubulary is a limited as mine. Plus I am most likey...

Late Deafend Adults Where Do We Belong

I too understand what Don is going through. Lost my hearing to Meniere's last year. I am taking ASL classes, but it is hard to practice when you live and work with everyone who is hearing. My wife is taking the classes with me. The folks who teach our classes and put on socials are always very...

Does Your Hearing Aid BUZZ On T?

Yep, they all do it. Get close to a microwave and it will buzz also. What is really strange is if you have an induction loop in a room with the TV on. If you try to answer a phone call it is hard to tell who is speaking the caller or the TV.

I Have A Question For People Who Wear Hearing Aids.

I have a love hate relationship with my HAs. I cannot hear anything without them, totally dependent on them to hear any speech. I cannot understand any music since I lost my hearing last year, with or without a HA. But to be honest I am getting to the point where I prefer to not wear them. I...

TV Loop and/or Portable Induction Loop

I recently installed a Micro Loop II system in my den. I had my floors redone, so it was a good time to install it. I am very pleased with it when watching news shows and sports. I still use CC with it to view some programs and nearly all DVDs.

    Who got snow?

It does not snow much in north Texas. The fact that we got 4 inches last Monday night and then 8 inches last Thursday is just plain weird. Two snow falls in the first week of March in Texas??? What is going on here?

What Books Have You Recently Purchased?

I just finished Cormac McCarthy's The Road and Michael Scheuer's Imperial Hubris. Currently reading Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything. All are several years old, but I never got around to reading them when they first came out.
