    What do you do when...

I'm not really sure the profile that shows up when we click her name is actually hers. This says she joined in 2012, but the profile says she joined in 2008. Also, the name in the profile has a number after it, 1982 or something, but the name on this page does not. This person posted 13 times...

    Would you dare?

I'm glad to live in the United States with no expectation to leave. I feel safer with the car under my control and not under control of a wild person. I can react to other wild drivers to protect myself and not just sit and hope the driver sees the danger. I have experienced something...

    What do you do when...

I would do what you did, post about it, and I've done it before many times. I wish I could tell you that I remember a time when it helped. I don't think anybody here is trying to mock you or criticize you. Over time, I've learned that the people on this particular forum are uniquely blunt...

    What's your dream musical instrument?

I would love to learn to play the piano so great I could play anything I feel inside myself, but I've never taken the time to learn.

    HOH Clarinetist

(several months later) I play the Clarinet. I want to play it in a concert band, but I can't hear myself while other instruments are playing. I've been looking everywhere for some sort of device I can clip to my clarinet and stick in my ear so I can hear myself, but I don't even know what...

    Why are you deaf?

Meniere's caused inflammation in the cochlea and the tissues surrounding my auditory nerve.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I used to always want to live in Perth, WA! That would have made two of us! I can't seem to find any deaf in my area either. At least none who actually live here. I've been looking for several years. Unfortunately, I've recently developed a severe intolerance to heat. I now wish I could...

    How do Deaf people drive?

Though I can't hear where the road is, the signs, the lights, and the obstacles, I still manage to grope my way from place to place without causing any accidents or obstructions. I think the headphone laws have to do with being distracted and disorientated because the sound comes from a...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Maybe the new ASL teacher will know, but I don't know why the HoH group wouldn't know about it.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I've actually been trying for a few years to find some sort of deaf group around here, and the closest I can find is a HoH group, but none of them sign, and there are only 6 members. Our local community college has JUST started teaching ASL 1 and 2, and the campus is about 45 minutes drive from...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I rely on the internet for my social life. My mom doesn't believe that's good enough for me, so she pushes me to go to social events and groups in the real world. All I get out of those is stress. I can't hear, and most people don't sign, so it's a constant guessing game as to what's going...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I wish people in my personal life would quit doing things like telling me every day that they wish I could hear this or that and asking me if I can heard something or asking me what something sounds like to me. And when will I stop being a novelty? I've come to the point where the hearing...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

If you don't have Meniere's disease, I think the way they do it is test you once a year, and if you have a trend of hearing loss, they expect the trend to continue. If you do have Meniere's disease, they try to test you periodically, but the trend is hidden behind fluctuations. The way I...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

That would be great! My ENT seems so so busy all the time though, but it's probably his fault for taking 3 week vacations twice a week.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

By coincidence, my hearing seems always to be at its "best" the day my hearing tests are scheduled, so I don't get the help I need to adapt to how my hearing is most of the time. That seems to be my luck in other areas of my life too. It's almost comical.
