    thinking in asl/esl

I don't think it is any harder to learn to think in ASL than in any other language. When I was studying French, I thought alot in French... same thing when I was studying in Japan or working in a Spanish speaking workplace.... the constant exposure got me thinking in whatever language I was...

    Lefty/Righty Sign

i sign left handed. i've never really had any complaints about my signing, except that sometimes my hands shake from the medicines i have to take. otherwise, no complaints. i tutor some asl students, they tend to appreciate that all they have to do is mirror me and they will be signing it...

    Anyone going to CSUN?

i'm not too worried about NCOD... i'm pretty much okay on my own. i've never used any deaf services (or at least not for school), and i did well this last semester in high school. i don't particularly need it, especially because i already get a note taker due to learning differences.

    people s behavior

yeah, i really hate it when people just think i'm making an excuse....and it's even more annoying when they justify it by the fact that i don't wear heaing aids. as for that woman....that's kinda creepy.

    people s behavior

I think it is important to note... sometimes hearing people gawk because they are interested in sign. I have met many who want to learn. That said, I think my worst experiences aren't with hearies watching my conversation. They can't understand it (I may be hoh, but I never use voice or mouth...

    Anyone going to CSUN?

Hi. I'm going to CSUN this coming fall... I was wondering if anyone else is going there. I'm kind of shy, and I still have some difficulty signing (I didn't start to loose my hearing until more recently....actually, I think I'm still registered as hearing...oh well, I come this far without any...

Fun things to do in an Elevator!

sometimes those word magnents are fun....they stick up against the sides of most elevators, since elevators are mostly metal. leave someone a note...people generally don't mind, but they do find it perplexing.

Is it necessary to have CI operation on one ear?

getting a ci is a little extreme for only one side loss.....has she tried hearing aids yet. also, if it is really messing up her balance bad, and if it was really sudden for no apparent reason ar all, she needs to see a specialist. it is not normal for healthy people to loose their heaing...

how I can get my lover to understand

you really should be going to class if he wants you to learn. ideally, you both should be going to the same class that way you can come home and review and practice together. check around at service agencies for the deaf. sometimes they have sign classes for deaf non-signers and their...

Which deaf school that has worst education and dumb policies?

i can't vote as i've never attended a deaf school. (i am hard of hearing, and that was not until after i developed my english skills. i still go to school, and i manage to continue to pass my courses without any services at a private school.) there are plenty of hearing schools that are just...

ASL taught as a foreign language credit?

yeah, that is pretty insulting, even to me. ( And ASL isn't even my first langauge. I use it pretty much daily... but usually only with spoken english/japanese, duing ASL class, when i can't understand, or when it is inconsiderate to others not to sign. Still, I am not at all amused by their...

ASL taught as a foreign language credit?

ASL is definately a foreign langauage in the sense that while not from a different country, it is not english. It has different set rules- and they are not always those of English. It also has a differnt syntax. Also, try looking this one up a the library: Armstrong, David F. 1988 Some...
