For those who suport NCLB..take a hard look at this cartoon

Actually, the test are modified given the mandates of the IEP. If they need to have instructions signed....they are signed. If the scale of the font needs to be 24....then it is 24. If the child is blind do you expect them to fill in the blank. No, of course not. They also have what is...

For those who suport NCLB..take a hard look at this cartoon

The tests are modified depending on the mandates of the IEP. The Deaf children are being screwed because so few gives a damn!!!!! 2010/2011 SOL Results We finally had the ability to require schools to educate Deaf children EQUALLY and they are now taking it away with waivers and Obama not...

    Here we go

Look at Virginia law. LIS > Administrative Code > 8VAC20-542-460 Don't let the word proficiency throw you. It is up to each district to decide what is proficient. Each district gets to decide who evaluates the teacher if at all. No reporting to the state is required as to "proficiency".

    Here we go

I did.....they were the ones who informed me that this one interpreter is the one and only interpreter in the state of Virginia taking the college courses that is providing her with the knowledge to work with deaf/blind students. My grandson is also registered with the Deaf/Blind Project. So...

    Here we go

Flabbergasted - I'll give you another fine example of schools shafting our kids. The only interpreter in Virginia going through training to work with deaf/blind students is being fired at the end of this school year. She currently works with a multi handicapped deaf/blind student who will then...

    public school

Wow, this is a tough situation. Its fantastic that you have no problem with reading and math. I hope you don't give-up. English is my first language as a hearing person and I still haven't become fluent. My grandson has problems reading. Hopefully they will figure out how to leap that...

Examples of 'ideal' educational and language environments for deaf children

Funds and focus are no longer for the deaf education at this multi-handicapped school. Schools don't want to lose the Medicaid funds so the last thing the public schools wants is to ship these kids out to a state school and in the same breath they want the multi-handicapped kids shipped out...

Examples of 'ideal' educational and language environments for deaf children

The multi-handicapped kids are not necessarily deaf and most are not. I just wish there were more opportunity for kids to socialize and hearing parents to meet deaf adults. I was lucky enough to have those experiences with my daughter and find it a shame that there is no strong deaf group here...

Examples of 'ideal' educational and language environments for deaf children

You should take it with a grain of salt followed by a Margarita, and I am in Hampton. The deaf school in Hampton became multi-handicapped. Prior to this move I sent my daughter to Staunton. They have since closed Hampton and combined the schools so that now Staunton is now a multi-handicapped...

Examples of 'ideal' educational and language environments for deaf children

Yeah, silly me. That would require them to take up a common cause for the good of the children and I guess that is not possible - but I be darn if they can't put together a DNO once a month.

Examples of 'ideal' educational and language environments for deaf children

This is part of the point. My grandson is stuck in a public school with two other students in his class that he has nothing other than deafness in common with, and the deaf in the state allowed the state to turn the state deaf school into a hell hole. WTF!!!

Examples of 'ideal' educational and language environments for deaf children

My guess is across the board it is all crap. Deaf school or local district....no difference. Yes there are the exception, but overall - CRAP. You have schools, "professionals", etc. all creating a new method to teach the deaf because years ago people were unsuccessful....right? Read some of...

    Here we go

School districts are not to be trusted or compromised with!!!!! They are a business. There may be employees at schools who care about the children, but the powers that be value only the producer such as IB students and sport stars.
