What is your mode of communication with Hearies?

Where I live, few hearing people know ASL, so I end up having people write everything down. But, I speak very well, and hearing people think because I can speak, that means I hear well in background noise even though I can't, so that is a challenge. I prefer to mostly stay by myself. Hearies...

My CAPD apparently is from Traumatic Brain Injury, & I'm also mildly HOH

I do believe knowing the cause is likely TBI does change things, as it gives me and informed professionals some clues about other things that might go wrong. I'll check these posts later. Eyes are tired again.

My CAPD apparently is from Traumatic Brain Injury, & I'm also mildly HOH

By the way, I am right now unable to tolerate captions and other visual demands for any longer than short periods at a time. I'm still rehabilitating my vision issues.

My CAPD apparently is from Traumatic Brain Injury, & I'm also mildly HOH

I don't believe I have always had CAPD. My CAPD was only diagnosed about a year ago. I struggled with it, misdiagnosed for many years. My head injury happened in about 1984, a baseball to the head, when not much was known about TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). I seemed normal at the time and so...

My CAPD apparently is from Traumatic Brain Injury, & I'm also mildly HOH

I found out fairly recently that my CAPD is likely from Traumatic Brain Injury, and I just found out Friday I have a mild hearing loss in the lower frequencies. How to deal with this? I'm in shock.

Hi! I'm a new CAPD'er from Washington state

I kept getting my hearing tested, always within normal limits, but kept having serious problems of hearing nonsense words in background noise, forgetting important details of stuff presented entirely orally, having. a miserable time with following oral directions, and misinterpreting the meaning...

Hi! I'm a new CAPD'er from Washington state

Yeah. Just like I hear that sometimes ASL interpreters get asked if they know Braille. Thanks, everyone! Glad to meet everyone! Sent from my iPhone using AllDeaf

    hearing aid for cats?

I doubt if anyone got kitty's consent before implanting. I never heard of a kitty CI before. I bet kitty will live a lifetime of resentment. I can tell by looking at his/her face. Interesting about using it to study deafness. Sent from my iPhone using AllDeaf

    hearing aid for cats?

If we have hearing aids for cats, eventually there will probably be cochlear implants for cats. Would we really want to put CIs in cats? Wouldn't it just be easier to have them learn a sort of Feline Sign Language? Oh, no! I might be starting a Kitty CI debate!

Hi! I'm a new CAPD'er from Washington state

Being that I have CAPD, when I become a Braille transcriptionist I probably should communicate with my clients as much as possible via email and text message, I guess. I really dislike using the telephone, as I get lost ("drown") in a sea of words. My transcriptionist friend/mentor uses the...

Hi! I'm a new CAPD'er from Washington state

There's grade one Braille, which is the alphabet, numbers, and punctuation without contractions. Literary Braille uses the contractions. And, there's Nemeth Code which is math and science Braille. (I know very little Nemeth Code, but I will eventually need to learn it in order to transcribe math...

Hi! I'm a new CAPD'er from Washington state

Hi, everyone! I just got diagnosed earlier this month with integral Central Auditory Processing Disorder after many years of struggling to get an accurate diagnosis. I taught myself to sign because I knew something was up. Now I am working on improving my signing skills through an online site...
