Kentucky clerk refused have same sex marriages license!

There is- five of the six deputies in her office have now agreed to issue the licenses. I almost suspect they did because they don't want to have the same fate befall them and/or they actually don't agree with her actions... who knows.

Though I don't know how exactly that works if THEIR signature would appear on the license instead of hers or that hers is the one that by default is the one that appears on ALL licenses...

Electric signature? How would signing their name make her's appear?

. . . Remember, Kim Davis attacked, threw some insults, and discriminated the LGBT people first. :hmm:

Do you have a link for that? I read the OP's links, and none of them mentioned any attacks or insults from Davis. I would like to read her exact words.

Not sure.. my thinking was that the licenses are pre-printed (or in electronic form) with her signature already affixed to it. But I don't think that would be it as the registrar(or clerk or whomever) would normally sign the license in 'real time' right then and there. I was puzzled as to why she instructed everyone in her office to refer all marriage license requests to her which is why I wondered/thought maybe that her signature was already ON the licenses prior to issuance. Tried to find an example of a blank license but all I get are pictures of Kim Davis lol.

Don't know if that makes sense- my mind is a little muddled right now :).

*Kind of going by my one experience of a court type wedding-- over 23 years ago... and in Canada lol. No not mine- a friend's. In that scenario everyone signed the license right there though I can't remember if there were any pre printed signatures on there as in councilman of the district or something.

I think we should have marriage licenses being handed out starting tomorrow, according to the news, so I presume yes.

Then why can she not be released with the understanding that she does not impede marriage licensing again?
This would be showing true tolerance.

a comment from my friend's FB -

As a Kentucky native myself, I'm not super hopeful that this story is going away anytime soon. First, since she's an elected official, she can't just be fired/terminated, she has to be impeached. Which means the state House has to indict her on impeachment charges and then Senate has to try her. However, the majority of Kentucky voters at the very least support her religious opposition, with a smaller majority opposing gay marriage altogether, so of course they back her and don't understand that it's really just a matter of her refusing to do her official duties. That makes trying to impeach her difficult politically.

So, if she's not impeached, she will remain in office and continue to deny marriage licenses to any couples. Since her stay was officially denied by the Supreme Court, obligating her to comply with the law but still allowing her to pursue her original appeal, she could be held in contempt of court, which means she risks jail time or hefty fines. Then one of two things happens: 1) She goes to jail and essentially becomes a martyr for the religious right and gains large amounts of sympathy from Kentuckians and other people nationwide; or 2) She's fined and will never have to pay a cent because it will either come out of tax payer money (since she's an elected official) or there will be large crowdfunding campaigns to gain donations for her that will likely surpass her fines and ultimately make her richer than before this all started.

It's unfortunately a pretty pessimistic outlook, but that's just kinda how I see this all playing out. The fight's nowhere near over.

I didn't find anything on her exact words since there's not enough information when I tried to google about this. I did hear some of the attacks she made according to some witnesses from quite a while ago, but they could be making up what they're saying to make Kim Davis look bad or Kim Davis could be covering her butt to make things seem better. I do apologize I can't seem to find any credible sources for this, Reba! :(

However... I did find one link you may be interested in which is related with the issues with Kim Davis and one pastor defended her.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/03/politics/kentucky-clerk-same-sex-marriage-kim-davis/

Echoing those who cited Acts 5:29, he said he felt Davis had a right to refuse to issue the marriage license and, waving his Bible, he told CNN he bore no hatred toward gay couples and is merely standing "for the truths of my God's word."

"I just know the destruction that this brings. As a pastor, I see the background. I see the broken families. I see the AIDS. I see the folks dying of diseases and the brokenness of relationships," he said.

He claim to have no hate for the gay couple yet he really contradict himself when he say that it'll bring the destruction and can cause disease/AIDS... Which I can see why LOT of LGBT folks would be offended since he basically said we are the beings with dangerous diseases, which some of us can see as an attack though.

Then why can she not be released with the understanding that she does not impede marriage licensing again?

I know you probably won't like my answer but... As I have stated in one of my posts... She discriminated the LGBT folks and refuse to provide the marriage licenses to them just because they're homosexual. Regardless of what beliefs you follow or not... In the civil law, you'd be committing a crime for any form discrimination (trying to use the beliefs to justify the discrimination are inexcusable as well) and she was ordered by the court to provide the marriage licenses to anyone by last Monday but she still continue to defy the judges, so she got in trouble for the contempt which resulted in her being thrown in jail.

She is a public servant who is sworn to uphold the constitution. It's been ruled that men and women can marry other men and women however they please as long as that person is of sound mind, appropriate age, and willing. The constitution will support this and it will support her choice to worship as she sees fit. She is more than welcome to go to her home, go to her church, go to a park, whatever and get down on her knees and pray to god. What she is not allowed to do is take away someone elses constitutional right to get married to a partner of their choosing because of her religion.

If she wishes to have that privilege, then she needs to find a private sector job elsewhere out of government. Imagine the uproar over constitutional rights if someone actually tried to take away their guns...

eeerrrr..... not really.... yes she is a public servant but not necessarily sworn to uphold the constitution. not all public servants are sworn to uphold the constitution the same way that our soldiers and judges do.

The courts did offer that option/proposal... proposed that she could stop issuing and turn that task over to others in her office. She rejected that proposal.

as for crowdfunding for her-- it won't be happening on GoFundMe at least for the time being.

That's interesting about GoFundMe. They shut out people who have been only charged with crimes, not convicted of crimes, so they could actually be refusing some people who were innocent and needed defense funding. I didn't know that.

Okay, I am lost, she says she will not issue licence for either family type, how is this not in adherence to the proposal?

Or is it the fact that her name would be on it?

I am glad to hear that she's in jail because she deserves it.

KY allows gay marriages so she is not right for the job. Kim Davis, stay in jail or do your job as required, or resign.

I was just coming here to address that-- yes it is because of the fact that her name would be on the license no matter who issues it in that office--

I found this comment--

Since she is the elected "County Clerk", her name will appear on those licenses. That's why she won't let any one else issue them. As long as her name appears on them it is as if she is agreeing to or approving of gay marriage.

(that info is what I was trying to google for last night but had zero luck).

So to circumvent the the court order so to speak she directed that NO marriage licenses be issued.

What does it take, if you know, for her name to not appear on anything that she does not sign personally?

Not just KY only but all of US states - most of them are due to court order and some of them come from state legislature or ballot.
