All the sudden your car won't start and you're parked at shopping center. Its not the battery cause your lights work. You're deaf and you left your cell phone cause you forgot it. How would you get home? Would you hitch hike on highway or walk 5 miles to your house? What would you do?

Since I'm a female, I would not attempt to walk or try to "hitch" a ride home...I would go into a store (since it's a shopping center/strip)...go up to the Customer Service Desk and ask for help to call my Road Service or call a relative/friend....

Thats what i did sort of. I was eating dinner and i came out start car engine won't run. So i asked the manager call the police. The cop was nice gave me a ride home and I'm texting my mom to call mechanic in morning. See i trust no one except cop.If i asked someone i didn't know who knows what might happened.

Walk softly and carry a big gun  in the old days i would just walk home but now i have a toddler and it's cold out so i would have to find a way to call family. If it was warmer I would just put him in his carry pack.

It all depends where I was, where I gotta be, etc. In most cases, I most likely would walk home or nearest store or nearest person with phone.

On a somewhat related topic, I was visiting one friend who wanted to go visit a friend in hospital so I left my car there at friends house and ride with them. they parked in business lot next door and we walked over to hospital to save on parking garage in freaking cold weather and high winds. We were only gone for an hour and we went back to the car and it was gone!!!! arggh. at first we werent sure if it was stolen or towed. found out it was towed  . The whole time it was cold inside the business doors as we needed to be near window to see for cop after texting 911 to show up. I texted wife to help - she was busy, texted my son and he got us. By the time I got home it was 6-7 hours later and boy I was glad to be home and sat next to woodstove to warm up. lesson learned. pay for freaking garage parking , cheaper and easier then the tow away.

Have other people push me in my car to my house. :giggle:

I stopped at fire station when I had car trouble and they were very nice about it and called AAA for me. The fireman thanked for not blocking the driveway like most people do so they can't get out if there a fire. I was like HUH??? People are that dense to block the driveway . The fire department was the closes place to me with a phone .

I have AAA emergency road service when I have a break down or needs assistance.

everybody - doesn't your car insurance offer road assistance service? I don't need to get a AAA because Progressive provides road assistance service.

You realize it's an extra charge , right?

Maybe AAA is a better value.

yes.

according to AAA website... for basic membership... it's $65 a year. for roadside assistance from Progressive... it's $2 added to my coverage.

towing is a big deal because it's the most expensive part for roadside assistance and probably the most commonly used. AAA's basic membership will tow for free only up to 3 miles while Progressive offers up to 15 miles. $93 "plus" service for AAA will give you up to 100 miles.
