What did you learn today?

You are forgetting that I ride trains a LOT. This isn't temporary loss we're talking about. We're talking permanat loss, and that may be part of the reason why-- because of train noises, which I AM around quite a bit. I just did not expect to wake up fully deaf this morning.

I know you're talking about permanent hearing loss , I was told my hearing would not get worst that it would stay the same and that is not true. I had lost more hearing and I could wake up one day deaf too. We have a train in my city but people were complaining about the horn being blown at odd hours so the train can't blow it horn anymore. That is a drag you loss more hearing , I do not know ASL and my daughter and granddaughter did not want to learn it with me so I hope I do not lose what hearing I do have .

Well, here's the thing, though-- I had been expecting to lose what hearing I had left, but I wasn't expecting to lose it so soon. I thought I had a few more years left, but apparently not. However, I don't see my full deafness as a negative-- I see it as a positive, because it means that my life could get better, and pouting/complaining isn't really an option in my case, because I knew it was likely to happen. I prefer to keep living life, and adjust as I go-- far easier to do it that way.

That every muscle in my body hurts! All that moving of stuff. I want to take a hot shower. My master bath has a drain problem (in that it's totally clogged). The builder is coming out tomorrow to hopefully fix this. Will use the other bathrooms in the meantime.

That this election had the worst turnout of voters in 72 years. So I was not the only person that was disgusting with the both parties . Yes I DID vote.

Hopefully that will be the only kink in the works with the new house and everything else will be good. Seems like something comes up when its something new I even saw a new mobile home missing the toilet tank cover once lol How are the kitties settling in?

I learned I need more time to get used to being profoundly deaf, as I'm not quite there yet.

 It's only been a few days.Mark.There's no way you are going to get used to it for a long time. What do you do when you are out and about for communication? People you come in contact with don't always know sign, like shop keepers, etc.

Funny you ask that. I'm actually on my HP laptop right now, and getting it set up for my needs, because this laptop has more power than my Gateway laptop, so I've been getting it set up to where I can use it daily. I still need a few more things (Webcam, and maybe a nice protection case, as well). And I guess you are right that it'll take a while to get used to it.

What the........ I woke up this morning, and I find I have lost a majority of what remaining hearing I had. How that happened, I have absolutely no idea, but given that I am expected to eventually lose it all, I can't be TOO surprised.
If you want to be sure, maybe you should go to your ENT doctor to check it out. That is, you want to be sure that there isn't something else going on with your ears that could effect your general health, like an infection.

I just found out my Dad has had a light stroke, and he can no longer drive his semi truck. My stepmom tells me he's been in and out of the hospital the last month, and they are having it very rough.

I'm pretty sure I know what caused it, and it's not an infection. I think that being around an idle Metra locomotive a few too many times may have done it. That, and being around train horns, as well. Both of these more than likely did my hearing in.

I'm sorry to read that. :aw:

That's sad news. :(

Yeah, I'm sorry to have found out a month later, but that's not their fault, as they have had way too much going on to be able to let everyone know. I just wish there were something I could do, but neither parent sign, so I'll have to find a way to help them out here, but given that they live in southeastern Illinois, doing that is no easy task.

I realize they do have too much going on to notify everyone but you're not "everyone"-- you're their son. Did your brother know?

Keep them in your thoughts, maybe a prayer at this time even if you never pray, a little message to God wouldn't hurt, asking for a good recovery for dad.

What kind of help do they need? Would a visit from you cheer them up?

If I were able to, I could set up some sort of medical funding to help them, and as for visiting them, that would be nice, but like my stepmom said, he's unabld to do a lot right now, and given that he's been in and out of the hospital, pretty sure their bills are sky-high, which is why I wanna do something, but not sure HOW. They live in a country portion of Illinois, and the nearest major city is Springfield, IL,160 miles northwest of there. There's too much unpredictability right now to even try.

Does he have medical insurance?
