I understand that it's one thing not to be able to afford travel. However, Mark has stated several times outright that he simply has no desire to touch anyplace outside of Illinois. That's different.

I'm thinking with his train vouchers he could probably get some kind of inexpensive trips outside the state. Or maybe he could go on a group trip with Thresholds or some other agency. But he simply has no desire to see other places or experience other cultures.

One is that I do not know anybody else in other states, and would likely get stranded, which I saw a young couple holding a sign not far from my appointment saying they were stuck. There was a discussion about this last night. Out of state train tickets cost way more than I could ever afford, and quite frankly, travel within the state is far cheaper than it is to go out of state. The ticket I picked up yesterday were a little high, but that's expected.

Cant go anywhere dont have money, cant go anywhere get lost or stranded, cant go anywhere.... BECAUSE youre AFRAID.... Thats what I observe.
You go out the wind is gonna beat you up, the sidewalk is gonna break your leg, its cold so willy will disappear and youll have 2 belly buttons... My god.
Cant leave Illinois... is it you are confined to Illinois by Law?
I cant help but wonder why the wind and sidewalks hate you so damn much?

Yeah-- my Dad. He's a semi-truck driver, but I cannot join him for insurance reasons. He says that paying insurance for my stepmom was high enough already, and I would cost even more, and considering the industry, it makes perfect sense.
 
It's a shame that if you truly are stranded in an area that it is Chicago.

When I was a very junior sailor (low pay grade) my first duty station was Great Lakes, IL, which is just outside of Chicago. I hated it. If I waited for my normal rotation, I would be there for three years. If I requested "no cost" orders, I could transfer after one year. "No cost" meant that I would have to pay for the entire transfer out of my pocket, and use my annual leave (vacation) time for the travel time. It was a huge sacrifice but I made the transfer to Pensacola, FL.

I am surprised that it sounds like it names a certain individual as a passenger. I would have thought it was just so much to cover "a passenger" and not an individual by name. I could see an increase to cover more than one passenger at the same time though.
 
can you buy on the day ticket on Amtrak or have to book if want go across states

Blame the US Dept of Transportation for that. Back in the 1990's and early 2000's, I could do so, no problem. Not so these days.
 
I got friends in the trucking business.. the insurance is for "passengers" not an individual person specifically. Some trucking companies welcome a passenger to keep the driver company so they dont fall asleep behind the wheel or even as a second driver for coast to coast hauls. Man I wish you would quit exaggerating, make up stories. Buy you a freaking ticket and get the hell out of the house for a few days, leave all communication devices at home and go fishing. quit all the BSing and jilly jollying around with excuses. Im disabled, limited income and I could just leave right now and not come back for a month if I wanted to... whats holding you up? You dont have a kid to watch or care for.... quit playing pocket pool.

Not talking about going to mommy and daddy, talking about getting out of the house from time to time, take a REAL trip, relax and enjoy the outdoors.
I used to travel to other states to meet people, sight see and just have a good time AWAY from home.
