Just vote, Do you use VP a lot?

Why or Why not?

I'm the first and only response, and it was No. LOL

I use email and texting for everything. Including making doctor appts, conversing with friends, etc. I think if I got one I probably would only use it a couple times a year.

LOL I have it but never used it and it got lots of dusts. It seems to me that i have problem with cable on and off that causes my VP messes up with my IP computer but i have not used it for about 5 years now. I dont miss VP at home. I just got a new VP at work. It is not bad. I wish I had the same kind of cisco stuff for home.

I have used VP ALL the time since 2003. I rarely have problem with it.

VP saves alot of time in every calls. Also, noticed less misunderstand with VP than text based.

Most problems lies to firewall issues and cabling too. IP address have nothing to do with many problems that Deaf have. IP address is pretty much like a number on your house and it has no function value in it.

When I had a deaf roommate years ago, his VP cable messed up the computer and wireless connection -- it was forever disconnecting. So frustrating. Had our IP provider (comcast back then) come out several times plus VP rep, could never solve the problem. Now that he doesn't live here anymore, PERFECT wireless connection all the time.

really sorenson causes my computer to lose it all the time. i looked up and saw the IP number was different so i resert it then i lost it. SO i removed sorsenon then my computer is fine. i dont know what happened. the tech guy came here like 10 times. I gave up.

Most residential IP address uses DHCP format what that means is that it changes all the time, regardless of what you have. Sorenson does not assign, nor change the IP address, only ISP can.

If you are attempt using more than 1 host at a time with 1 IP address from ISP without using router or gateway modem with DHCP server enabled then you will see problem because only one IP address is assigned to single host not multiple hosts. Router or gateway modem with DHCP server using NAT solves this problem by assigning private IP addresses with single public IP address assigned by your ISP.

If set up properly, then you should not have any issue, trust me, you will see same problem if you add another computer not just Sorenson VP until you set up the right way.

No. I use text and email for almost everything, except I do use video with my family only.

Not enough information really, there are several questions I have. For instance do your roommate add router of same brand? Does both router have same network ID? If that is the case, then the solution is to change network ID on one of these two routers and viola problem solved. Does that roomate tried to use same host ID as other host? If that is the case, guarantee you will see problem and struggling to solve the problem. Simple rule, no two or more hosts can have identical host ID.
There are rules to follow when assigned ID on each machines, often I see there rules are broken, and VP gets blamed on, or so called roommate gets blamed on.

I don't know anymore. Both Comcast and VP rep tried to fix the issues, both hardware and software. Nothing ever worked. He doesn't live here anymore, hasn't in years, so there's no VP here anymore. It's a moot issue now.

Sorry - gotta rant here- When its setup properly, regardless of your problems with cable, it can work seamlessly. I dont know your history, but 90 percent of problems with vp regardless of VRS provider, is always with router setup or cabling or a change on your home network. again, when setup properly and a little of teaching of how things work- your pc and vp will ALWAYS work seamlessly without any intervention on your part.

Also - It has nothing to do with cisco, but rather with the administrators at your work working hard to fix problems behind the curtains before you are affected. Work networks are soooo much more complicated then home networks.

gotta rant here too--

fyi- comcast is notorious for videophone problems regardless of the VRS hardware provider . If you compare comcast to all the other internet cable companies like brighthouse, roadrunner, etc- majority of vp problems lies with comcast. I am not talking about hardware issues. I am more of talking about the quality of service. When a videophone user whom has comcast, they start trying to tweak settings or setup in attempt to improve the video quality without understanding network and reasoning of installer setup, they inadvertently wipe out the proper setup in routers vp needs making the vp user frustrated and angry and starts pointing fingers everywhere without explaining what was done or changed.

moot point now? maybe for you, but I want to have this mindset out there so everyone can have more respect and understanding of how videophones work and why possible issues are out there.

Where is "Sometime?"

I use IM relay most time for order. I like IM relay because there is chat history which perfect for proof and easy for me to order parts like 132N4844N842 and I always use copy/past from internet to IM relay and quick. VP may misunderstand when you signed that both are almost same like zero/O, two/V, six/W, and nine/F plus too long for me to spelling for part items number.

Can you image to how sign to VP like O02VW6NF?

I still use VP for appointment, simple question, etc as no sign spelling need.

It was not your fault. Which tech guy? ISP or VP? IF VP then it was his/her fault for poor job.

Do you want a vote from me given that I don’t have a VP? There is no response from my left ear but right ear did not give problems until adult. Have not been able to understand on voice phone for many years and went to TDD and state relay service when it was first offered. Have stayed with that combination of Illinois Relay and VCO. I do not sign!

Do also use email. Do not text as you need someone to text to and my bunch does not text.
