"gold digger" being overused.

Oh one other thing. Don't worry about what names people call you. If someone wants to call you a gold digger and you know you are not one, it is their problem not yours.

Don't let someone's negative comments get you down on a personal and/or professional level.

Having sold a lot of things, trust me, being called a gold digger is pretty cheap as compared to what other people have told me when I tried selling things to them.

It seems that computer matching dating service might be what you need since you have very specific requirements. That would also eliminate having to deal with "friends" who would be critical of your dating criteria. No one can call you a gold digger unless you are sharing that info with your friends.

Maybe do a little less "sharing" and little more "searching." :)

Be forewarned that even an eventual match meeting all your criteria can go sour. A guy with a master's degree and great job one day can be an unemployed "over-qualified" job seeker the next. Also, there are no guarantees that your future perfect mate will always have perfect mental and physical health as the years go by. Can you live with that?

Reba- nothing against you its the "over-qualified" person I got a beef with

and for all of you crying about being overqualified and not having a job.....

get off your soap box and get the freak down on your knees to scrub the floor, get into the fields and start picking the veggies/fruits, clean up soiled diapers at the nursing home. All of the jobs that require physical labor or simple mental work..... and still give people dignity is always hiring. There is never lack of not having a job out there. There are so many turnovers in many different areas. They don't give a crap what your resume looks like they just want to know if youre trust worthy, and can show up on time is two of the major issues they want to know as well as having a valid SSN.

MANY immigrants are doing that because too many of "overqualified" persons do think too high of yourselves. My point is... if I had to work for 5 dollars a hour until the next job came up instead of feeling sorry for myself typing away my sorrows at the local starbucks sipping 5 bucks coffee that I charged on my credit card.......on the 1,000 laptop I also charged on the credit card for... using the wifi

I do personally thank every single hardworking person that does everything no one is willing to do.

My father is one of those "overqualified" persons, he was a really high placed person in the companies he worked for. Those companies were brought out, 15 years later, he still refuses to get a job and my family has paid the price over and over again. Americans need to change their perspective and do what it needs to do to survive. SO I don't give a rat's behind if someone is not working due to school reason, taking care of ones family etc etc, LIFE does happen but being overqualified and being unemployment is telling me youre not willing to survive if it had to come to scrubbing the toliet etc. I know the industry, they don't give a fudge how you got there, they just need BODIES.

for some that have misunderstood where I stand- I do this criteria due to faster process of elimination. SIMPLE as that.

I do give people a chance when I start talking to people at first. I get the idea of how on the same page one can be with me, I just say bachelors degree or above because that is the type of people I tend to be able to communicate easily with Deaf people. If I was a hearing person I would not even have to say a bachelors degree or above because there are more and more hearing people out there that I can quickly eliminate which ones are not up to my level or even beyond my level like the guys on big bang theory lol those guys crack me up but back to the point.

Sadly, I only do this on deaf sites, not hearing sites. I've been too extremely frustrated with so many illiterate deaf men out there. One funny story: one said he was a Graduate student. I said which school are you going to now. He said he graduated from high school. Too funny but thats how bad it is on the deaf sites. I'm being flamed for doing this like I said to many deaf women are getting more :eek3:

the entire point of the thread is ......

quit using that term!

Hmm...many people CAN'T get menial jobs because they've been told they're over-qualified. I know, been told that by employment agencies many times.

curious, you work?

Same here. I know a lot of people with college and university degrees and I have a degree myself. I have been told that I was over-qualified quite a few times since obtaining my degree. Before that, I never was told that. It's a label that people actually do use.

I know people who were told they were too old for positions. Illegal but it happens.

I know people who experienced that too as well. It's a real shame. Look at Betty White, she's busier than ever. The same cannot be said for a 50-year-old man trying to get a decent job. Even people who are in their 40s get turned down due to being too old. Sad.

I do know who Kai Onca is and yes, she does work.

I've met Kai Onca in person and I am friends with her.

I also have friends who get discriminated against, yet do nothing. I wish I had a nickel for each time a deafie tells me he/she was denied a job because they "couldn't hear to do it." I wish they would raise hell, then it wouldn't happen so much, especially if the suit gets media attention.

Why are people going to employment agency when they can't go to the local warehouse and apply as well as a nursing home as an aide. Bus tables at the restaurant like I said. Warm bodies are always needed. Walmart, target they don't care. My group home doesn't care if you're overqualified. They just need someone that's reliable, that can be counted on and give compassion and dignity to our clients. If my group home were able to get more people they would be letting go a good number of staff for better workers but because they treat our clients like crap and we can't afford not to be without a staff. It's hard job and not many are willing like I said before a lot of people just don't want to do it.

There are tons and tons of places that wants a valid ssn, reliable person they don't give a fudge as long as your background clears they truly do not care. Why are immigrants and illegal workers filling those spots up?

Farmers don't care. They need reliable person to count on picking the fields.

Like I said, if ones sooooo overqualified they're relying on employment agencies apparently they can't figure it out on their own.

Yeah I work, work no play makes one a dull person haha.

Right, however, you need to realize that there's a lot of stress involved in the process of a lawsuit and that it could drag on for a good while. I can understand why people often hesitate in doing anything about it at all. You're right, they should raise hell though.

Yes, Kai Onca is a very nice person. I would encourage anyone take the opportunity to get to know her if they can.

Very kind of you to say that.... It was supposed to be a secret. People are supposed to know I bite and do not like turbo engines

I have to admit it's quite audacious and frankly, quite offensive of you to assume deaf people don't try looking for work everywhere and that we're just lazy self-pitying people who think we're over-qualified for everything and can't figure things out on our own.

Why are people going to employment agency when they can't go to the local warehouse and apply as well as a nursing home as an aide.
In some states, most hiring is done thru state employment agencies. Many companies will not even accept an application except thru the state agency.

Bus tables at the restaurant like I said. Warm bodies are always needed. Walmart, target they don't care.
Those are some businesses that will accept on site applications.

Farmers don't care. They need reliable person to count on picking the fields.
Not everyone is physically able to do that work, or live in non-farming areas.

Like I said, if ones sooooo overqualified they're relying on employment agencies apparently they can't figure it out on their own.
Not necessarily true. Sometimes that is a company's policy.

I agree that no legitimate work should be considered unworthy. Even with my bachelor's degree, at times I worked at jobs scrubbing toilets and flipping burgers (not at the same time, heh, heh). My main job now is interpreting but I also work doing lawn care.

I also know many people who are more intelligent, better read and better educated without college degrees than some with degrees.

Here's a shocker. They do discriminate against people. Walmart, I can tell you that they won't hire overqualified people most of the times. They wouldn't even hire me when I applied right after I graduated from college. Apparently they were worried that they would lose me too soon because I had a degree. The top reason for not hiring "overqualified" people is because they have to train the potential employees. However, if they feel that you are somewhat overqualified, it's not worth the risk because they don't want the training to go to waste.

The fact is, a lot of people are more than willing to go down on their knees and start scrubbing the floor. However, they need a floor to scrub in the first place. That's the challenge.

There are tons and tons of places that wants a valid ssn, reliable person they don't give a fudge as long as your background clears they truly do not care. Why are immigrants and illegal workers filling those spots up?

Because they are seen as cheap labour. They are often paid below the minimum wage and under the table. If these places truly want a valid SSN and reliable person, why are they hiring illegal workers then? They are all talk, but they are in fact doing the opposite.

Farmers don't care. They need reliable person to count on picking the fields.

They do care. The farmers here won't hire anyone but migrants. They even have a program for it.

Like I said, if ones sooooo overqualified they're relying on employment agencies apparently they can't figure it out on their own.

The only reason why people end up going to employment agencies is because they keep getting turned down job after job.

It's easy for you to say that because you are not in that position. You're coming off as being incredibly judgmental. You must surely know everything about what's going on everyone's lives.

... and no, I don't even drink Starbucks. Too rich for my blood.
